The S90 takes design inspiration from the Volvo Concept Estate

Having leaked the design language of the upcoming Volvo S90 (S80 successor) via images of the scale model, the same source has now released more images of the 1:43 size die cast model revealing new details on the Swedish carmaker’s flagship sedan including the tech laden interiors. As per the leaked images, the styling that first made its debut on the new XC90 will be carried over on the S90 as well and is inspired from the Volvo Estate concept. The Thor’s hammer shaped LED DRLs continue to dominate the fascia.

On the inside, the leaked image of the scale model reveals the Volvo S90 to have a clutter free dashboard with minimal use of buttons while all functions will be operated using the 9-inch Sensus touchscreen infotainment display unit located on the centre console. You also see a new 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, Heads Up Display (HUD) unit, a speaker in the upper dashboard with the audio system coming from Bowers & Wilkins.

The new Volvo S90 sedan will be longer and wider than the outgoing S80 with the rear carrying over the automaker’s signature design language featuring C-shaped tail lamps, but sharper this time. The S90 will be the second product from the Geely owned giant to be based on the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform and hence similarities under the hood will also be evident. Power on the new sedan will come from a 2.0-litre Drive-E four-cylinder petrol motor good to produce between 190 HP to 400 HP with the latter power output most likely being available on a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Transmission duties will be performed by the 8-speed automatic unit sending power to the front wheels. An AWD system could be offered as optional on higher trims. In addition, Volvo recently conveyed that it has commenced work on the next generation V40 hatchback as well, which will be based on the new CMA modular platform that will underpin a host of new offerings from the manufacturer (including Geely cars).
