The new XUV500 automatic will be available across dealerships from 5th December.

Mahindra states that the 6-speed automatic transmission is sourced from Aisin and has been borrowed from the SsangYong Tivoli. The second generation transmission with torque converter and a planetary gear-train has a torque limit of 450 Nm and comes with two overdrive ratios as well as two uphill climbing modes. The automaker further conveys that lag has been well contained from the automatic transmission while fuel efficiency has taken a drop of 10 percent over the manual variant returning an ARAI certified 13.85 km/l.

In terms of power, the oil burner churns out 140 HP at 3750 RPM and 330 Nm of torque available between 1600-2800 RPM. The automatic transmission required Mahindra to invest Rs. 58 crores in the project and the company has stated that the new autobox will find application in more products in the future. The 2015 XUV500 automatic has quite the competition coming from the Hyundai Creta, while also locking horns with the more expensive automatic variants of the Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet TrailBlazer as well as the upcoming Renault Duster facelift automatic.
