NCAP crash test results have always been taken in high regard in global markets but from last year, even the Indian market has started to take these tests very seriously. A lot of popular hatchbacks were tested last year and many of their safety shortcomings were revealed to the public. Now, the Latin NCAP has tested the Indian made Volkswagen Vento and the C-segment sedan has bagged a 5-star rating which is fabulous.

The model that was tested came with dual front airbags and ABS but it was a left-hand-drive model since it was an export unit. The vehicle has scored 5-stars for adult protection and 3-stars for child protection. For adult occupants, the Vento scored a rating of 14.73 out of 17 and for child occupants it managed to score 34.16 out of 49. For the overall body integrity test, the Vento has got a ‘Stable’ certification.

Volkswagen has been getting a lot of flak since the past few months after the diesel-gate scandal and it is surely going to take a lot of time and efforts for the automaker to gain back its respect in the market. Meanwhile, even in India, the matter is being investigated seriously and ARAI is expecting Volkswagen to come up with a proper response by the end of this month.

The Volkswagen Vento is offered with three engine choices. The 1.6-litre petrol engine is offered in Trendline, Comfortline and Highline trims while there is also a 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine on offer that comes with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The sedan also gets a 1.5-litre oil-burner that is offered with manual as well as DSG transmissions. The Vento competes with the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Renault Scala and Nissan Sunny.
