A new commuter from Bajaj Auto has been in the news for some time now and finally giving a glimpse of itself, the first spy shots of the upcoming model have emerged online revealing a host of interesting details. Said to co-exist with the Discover brand, Bajaj is not opting for another run-of-the-mill commuter and instead has a more city friendly cruiser in the making that will be taking on the slightly premium commuter space.

When it goes on sale, the upcoming Bajaj cruiser commuter will be the most affordable of-its-kind in the country positioned below the Avenger Street 150. The test mule was equipped with decoy parts from the Pulsar series revealing little in terms of design, but  the chassis, suspension and the different size tyres managed to spill out the details. The low slung chassis is a give away of the cruiser and as a result gets a lowered seat height for the rider and pillion in a bid to appeal to a larger group.

Further, the new Bajaj commuter gets a sharper rake with a flat handlebar while there are centre set foot pegs instead of front set ones seen on the Avenger series, all of which make the model more city friendly. The model gets a rather large fuel tank and a bulky exhaust in a bid to add to some presence to the package. Talking about the mechanicals, the bike gets telescopic forks at the front and gas charged twin shocks at the rear, while the tyre size is different with a 17-inch unit at the front and a 16-inch unit doing duty at the rear.

In terms of powertrain, the source suggests that the test mule was equipped with a 150cc single-cylinder engine (probably a heavily revised or a new unit) that is expected to produce around 14-15 BHP of power, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. That said, smaller capacity engines will be eventually introduced as well kickstarting another series for Bajaj on the lines of the Discover, Pulsar and now Avenger. Lastly, a 240 mm front single disc and a 130 mm rear drum brake take care of stopping performance on the upcoming commuter. It is believed that the new Bajaj motorcycle will be making its debut by mid-2016
