Fiat Chrysler owned Jeep has confirmed that it is working on a new model which is developed specially for the Indian market and it has been under development since some time now. The new model will be produced locally and is also expected to be exported from India, this indicates that the manufacturer has big plans for its Indian voyage.

Jeep stated that it has invested $280 million at the Ranjangaon facility for the production of this new product while the launch is scheduled to happen next year. The new model will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options and is expected to be priced aggressively due to localisation.

Operations in the Indian market are expected to commence by mid-2016 with the official website already live. The automaker will initially sell the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler Unlimited and the performance bred Grand Cherokee SRT while the recently spied Renegade is also expected to join the lineup soon. All these cars will be brought in via the CBU route.

All the Jeep models will initially be sold by Fiat dealerships until the automaker sets up a chain of dealerships for itself. It aims at starting its executive dealerships called Jeep destinations in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochi and Delhi in the first phase while Chandigarh, Lucknow and Kolkata will be covered in the second phase.
