The Kwid AMT variant has been named as Easy R and is available only with the 1.0-litre engine option. It gets dual airbags and ABS as standard.

The Renault Kwid has been the showstopper car for the french manufacturer. Now also jumping to the AMT bandwagon, Renault has unveiled the small car equipped with an Automated Manual Transmission mated to its 1-litre DOHC petrol engine. This places it in direct competition to the Alto K10 AMT. The AMT gearbox is currently the hottest rage in the country as it combines the convenience of an automatic transmission with the fuel efficiency and low costs of a manual gearbox.

The Kwid Easy R replaces its floor mounted gear lever with a large cupholder. Also, the controls for AMT gearbox namely Reverse, Neutral and Drive are placed beneath the infotainment system in the form of a rotary knob. The park function is still assigned to a manual handbrake. It also loses the clutch pedal in the footwell and comes with a creep function for stop and go traffic.

The AMT gearbox is only mated to the newly unveiled 1-litre engine which is said to produce 77 BHP of power. If the numbers remain similar on the car, which is already very light, then it will have a power-to-weight ratio of more than 100 BHP per tonne making it a pocket rocket. The car also gets dual airbags and ABS as standard. In contrast to this, currently available Kwid only has driver’s side airbag that too in the top variant.
