Skoda is considered to be a prominent player in the family-car segment, however the automaker only has the Yeti in the SUV lineup. But not for long, Skoda has recently revealed sketches of the VisionS concept which will be unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March.

The Skoda VisionS concept will be the automaker’s first 6-seater SUV which is expected to go into production by 2017. The SUV will be built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform which also underpins the Tiguan that will make its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo and the platform also underpins other cars like the Audi A3 and the new generation Skoda Octavia.

The front fascia of the Skoda VisionS looks similar to that of the VisionC showcased in 2014 that formed the basis for the new Superb while the overall design is in accordance with the automaker’s current design language with a rugged touch to it. The roofline slopes towards the rear which has a sharp line below the windscreen like seen on the Audi Q3 along with a horizontal reflector bar and twin exhausts.

The Skoda VisionS concept is 4700 mm long, 1910 mm wide and 1680 mm tall which indicates that the SUV is going to be as big as the Hyundai Santa Fe and of course it will carry a lot of ‘Simply Clever’ features for comfort and luxury. The SUV is expected to be called Kodiak as the automaker has recently trademarked two names of which one is Kodiak and the other one is Aratan.

The production version of the Skoda VisionS concept will be powered by 4-cylinder engines which are currently found in the Superb. Looking at the success of new products such as the Octavia and Superb, the Kodiak SUV is most likely to reach Indian shores and will take on the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V and others in the segment.
