The Volvo V90 is a wagon based on the Scalable Product Architecture platform that also underpins the XC90 SUV and S90 sedan while the front fascia looks identical to the sedan sibling.

Volvo has unveiled the V90 at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and the estate is a perfect combination of gracious looks and practicality. The Swedish automaker is known for producing wagons with excellent build quality across the globe and the V90 has added a feather to its hat.

The Volvo V90 shares the Scalable Product Architecture platform with the XC90 SUV and S90 sedan while it will sit on top of the global portfolio with the other 90s. The front fascia looks identical to the sedan sibling while the roof and the rear end draws inspiration from the automaker’s Estate Concept.

Though the Volvo V90 is longer at 4936 mm and wider at 1890 mm, it looks sleeker, smarter and more dynamic than the boxy V70s. The only backdrop is the boot space which is limited to 1526-litres which is not only considerably less than competitors such as Mercedes E-Class Wagon and BMW 5-series Touring but also the older V70.

The Volvo V90 will be powered by the same T6 and T8 engine options that also powers the S90 with a plug-in hybrid system and the interior will also be borrowed from the luxury sedan. Volvo has planned 7 new launches in 2016 for the Indian market which includes the S90 but it is unclear whether the V90 will be launched here or not. The estate’s global launch is likely to take place later this year.
