Ford has reduced the production of the new Figo and Figo Aspire as demand for both the cars is weak and they are not fetching good enough numbers.

The Figo competes with the Swift, Grand i10 and Bolt

When Ford had launched the all-new Figo and the Figo Aspire last year, all of us had great expectations from the vehicles because both of them are good performers and very capable. Ford also surprised everyone with the aggressive pricing on both the cars. The American automaker set a target of producing 20,000 units of both the cars every month.

However, demand for both the vehicles turned out to be much weaker than expected. Hence, Ford cut down production of the Figo siblings to 10,800 units. Ford even shut down operations at its Sanand plant for a week. As of now, production of both the cars is limited to 6500 units a month.

The Ford EcoSport is the company’s highest selling model but even its sales have been falling of late, due to the arrival of a lot of rivals in the compact SUV segment. When Maruti launched the Vitara Brezza at a competitive price tag, Ford swiftly reacted by reducing the prices of the EcoSport by a significant amount.

The Ford Figo and Figo Aspire are offered with a choice of 1 diesel and 2 petrol engines. Ford offers a 6-speed DCT gearbox with the 1.5-litre petrol engine. The Figo competes with the Tata Bolt, Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 while the Figo Aspire fights it out with the Maruti Swift DZire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Honda Amaze.
