The Tata Nano is indeed going places, with the world’s cheapest car now entering Jay Leno’s garage. Jay Leno is the famous host of ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ and is an avid car and motorcycle buff. His garage includes 100 cars and 90 motorcycles including a Royal Enfield. His vehicle collection includes custom made automobiles to high end supercars. But amongst all of this, there stands the humble Tata Nano. The Tata Nano he has bought is white in colour and features the special Indian tri-colour on it.
Tata Motors started to locally assemble the Land Rover Freelander 2 in India last year and had revealed its plans to locally assemble more vehicles from the JLR stable in the near future. The company’s next model to be locally assembled is the baby Jag, the XF. The Jaguar XF is priced higher to its competitors as it is brought in as a CBU, while the German trio locally assemble the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Local assembly gives company a cost advantage as they have to pay lesser duties.
When Bajaj Auto launched the KTM Duke 200 in India, many were worried about the underbelly exhaust not being suitable for the rains. Many thought that water would seep in when the Duke 200 has to wade through water, thereby seeping inside the engine and causing damage. The rains are just around the corner and Duke owners are a worried bunch. Now no one would actually risk to take their bikes in the rains just to test what will happen in case of flooding. But a guy named Vijay has performed a series of tests on the KTM Duke 200 to give us a definitive answer. Vijay has performed the following tests in a place where water was filled till 16.5 inches (upto the knee).
Fiat India launched 2012 model year Fiat cars on the 4th of January 2012. The Italian automaker at that time did not reveal any details on the Punto 90 HP. The company had revealed that it has no plans to launch any new variant or product in 2012 and would concentrate on brand building and service network expansion this year. But now Fiat has sent us an invite that states it will be launching a limited edition variant of the Grande Punto 90 HP Sports on the 18th of May 2012. The company will also be inaugurating the second Fiat Caffe, in Pune.
Tata Motors has started registrations for the Full Throttle Himalayan Experience, which is the very first of a series of expeditions. The company is doing something similar to what Mahindra does for its customers, through the Great Escape events. The Full Throttle Himalayan Experience is scheduled for ten days, starting from the 22nd June 2012. It will cover 2000 kms across 5 states, traversing mountains, lakes and gorges. The final destination is Srinagar and the company is expecting 25 participants.
Mahindra is officially launching the Thar AC in Mumbai right now. The company has unveiled the Mahindra Adventure Season 2 calender. The company held 20 great escapes last year and has conduced 90 great escapes till date. Mahindra has given the Thar an air-conditioner with a 150cc compressor (from the Scorpio) along with a heater. The Thar continues to be available with a soft top and Mahindra has made changes to the fabric to make it more durable. Power comes in from a 2.5-litre CRDi engine which produces an output of 105 BHP at 3800 RPM and a torque output of 247 Nm at 1800 RPM. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Mahindra Thar AC is priced at Rs. 6.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
Garwamre Motors has soft launched a limited edition version of the GT650N motorcycle. This limited edition gets some cosmetic changes and will be available for a limited period of time. It is currently on display at Garware Motors showrooms in Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata. Available in black colour, the GT650N LE will be available with the tubular frame finished in bright red colour. Graphics have been added to the tank and tail. The wheels get pin-stripes, and the motorcycle looks more appealing with these small changes. This limited edition is priced at a premium of Rs. 10,000/- over the regular GT650N. This makes the GT650N LE cost Rs. 4.61 lakhs (on-road, Pune).
