
The compact SUV segment is one segment that has become a hot favourite among car buyers in recent times and looking at this, every car manufacturer wants to be in this segment. Ford recently unveiled its production version of its compact SUV, the EcoSport. In answer to that, General Motors is developing a compact SUV called the Chevrolet Trax. Although, General Motors is quite tight lipped about the development of this vehicle, the company has released the first ever picture of the vehicle. Remember the company had shown a concept vehicle at the 2007 NY Auto Show called the Trax. It was also featured in Transformers movie in 2009.

Tata Motors’ mini truck called the Ace has stormed the Bangladesh pick-up market consuming more than 90% stake in the small pick-up segment in three years since its launch in early 2009. Selima Ahmad, vice chairperson of Nitol-Niloy Group of Industries, the sole distributor of Tata vehicles in Bangladesh commented on this occasion that the dealer had sold sold 7,800 units of Tata Ace during the January-December period of 2011, up from 3,500 units in 2009.

Providing tax exemption on battery operated vehicles is one aspect on which the Indian Government has always taken a late decision forcing many manufacturers to either postpone their electric model line-up plans or completely discard them. With sky-rocketing fuel prices, it is evident that electric vehicles are indeed going to play a solution for the mode of transportation in the near future, though I have a strong negative opinion about it becoming the future of transportation.

But now, it’s time for the official unveil of the fastest Mini ever, the John Cooper Works GP Special. John Cooper Works, a British based company had earlier developed the first JCW GP model which got a 1.6-litre force-fed gasoline engine producing 210 BHP of power and 244 NM of torque.

It is rumoured that the German luxury super car maker, Porsche is now developing a smaller, sedan on the looks of Panamera to compete with its rival Mercedes Benz E Class and the CL Coupe. Called the Pajun, the estimated price places the Pajun somewhere upwards of $84,000. According to a report released by Reuters, Porsche after its success with the Panamera is now thinking about going for a smaller 4 door version of the luxury sedan.

The Japanese auto major, Toyota Motor Corporation declared a fall in its net profit by 31% for the year ending March 2012 which was quite unexpected considering the fact that the company had a very rough year with the tsunami and earthquake in Japan and massive floods in Thailand playing havoc to production schedules. Prior to that, Toyota had announced a major recall case of over 10 million vehicles which also gave a huge blow to the “reliability” image of the company, finally resulting in losing the Number 1 position to General Motors.

The iconic US motorcycle maker, Harley Davidson has seen a strong demand in the Indian market and witnessing such a positive response, the company is aiming for a 10 fold increase in its sales by the year 2015-16 to 10,000 units a year. Harley Davidson also sees India in its top 2 markets in the Asia Pacific region by that time. The company has stated that it is already facing huge demand for its models and has revised its turnover volumes to 2000 units this year.
