You say your a motorcycle enthusiast. But have you ridden any of these machine which we have listed here today. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and hurry up to get your hands on one of these. They will definitely make you adrenaline go pumping and your heart beating.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 Lean photo

5. Bajaj Pulsar 220 - No matter what people say about the Pulsar’s poor quality and questionable built, the P220 has been responsible for creating the performance motorcycle cult in India. The P220 features a very powerful motor but its not only power that makes the 220 makes this list. Its the way the bike sounds. Bajaj has got it spot on with the sound of the bike, which totally matches the go of this machine. A top speed of around 140 kmph will keep most happy but the biggest plus point of the Pulsar 220 is the affordability. Its the least expensive bike in this comparison, yet one of the fastest.

4. Royal Enfield Classic 500 - When you say performance, cruiser bikes seldom figure in the list. But the C500 is different, very very different. Having a monstrous 500cc engine is one thing and boasting of 41Nm of torque is entirely another. The Classic 500 features the latest tech from the now Indian based motorcycle maker but its the torque rush which makes it our list of “must ride motorcycles.” This bike does not like high revvs, but you would not want to get there either, because at a sedate 3000 RPM, the kick this machine generates is like no other.

2011 Honda CBR250R Black Wheels photo

3. Honda CBR250R - High hopes very pinned on the CBR250R to be on top of this list, but it isn’t and for a reason. The baby CBR’s nature is more Karizma like, refined engine with excellent power delivery at lower end of the spectrum. Being a Honda, the refinement levels are butter smoother but the CBR250R does suffer from quality, which is un-Honda like. Not that its a bad machine but we would expect more for a bike carrying the CBR moniker. The CBR will hit 100 kmph in less than 9 seconds and will comfortable cruise at 120 kmph if you please.

yamaha yzf r15 Australia photo

2. Yamaha YZF-R15 - If any bike has changed the perception of more power is equal to more cubic capacity phrase, it is the R15. The bike is solely responsible for getting back Yamaha from a hiatus to what it is today (in India). Powered by a measly 150cc motor, the R15 feels relaxed and underpowered at low revvs. But once you hit 5500 RPM, everything changes. The R-Series bike suddenly feels like its on steroids and gives such a massive jerk to the rider that he start grinning underneath his helmet.

kawasaki ninja 250r photo

1. Kawasaki Ninja 250R - Fact No. 1 – The Ninja 250R is the king of the 250cc segment worldwide for not 1, 2 but 20 years. Fact No. 2 – The Ninja costs almost twice that of the CBR250R in India. Fact No. 3 – The CBR250R is equally quick as the Ninja 250R. Fact No. 4 – The Ninja 250R sweeps away the this comparison. Although this Kwacker will hit 170 kmph, which is not significantly faster compared to other bikes here, it is the combination of its high revving parallel twin motor (13500 RPM) and superbike looks which make it a hot favorite to us.

Krishna, some dealers do provide test rides. Otherwise you have to rely on your friends who own one.

You should have considered the Yamaha FZ16 as one of the bikes ought to be ridden because of its excelent handling quality, aggresive but comfort sitting with superb STABILITY.

Chandranath, if we were to make it 10 not 5, than the FZ would have certainly figured in the list.

Hi Team
I feel Apach 180 abs or without abs should have been featured instead of RE500. This i say because all the ones listed except RE500CL are sports bike and RE is a cruiser. Apacha has a top speed of 125KMPH and with ABS has the best braking in the whole country. APACHE 180ABS should have been considered in my opinion and afcourse not to leave behind the KARIZMA ZMR with 127kmph top speed and fullfairing design.

Krishna, had this been a top ten bike comparo, the Apache and the Karizma’s of the world would have certainly figured. But the C500 surely is one rocket machine and even though its a cruiser, the torque rush is insane. The ZMR is too sober to be included here. Although its an awesome motorcycle, its not the top 5 and also aam aadmi can’t get his hands on the ZMR.

Again i strongly feel we have to recommend bikes which aam aadmi can lay his hands on.. The masses in india get to test ride all the bikes except ninja , harley, ducati , honda cbr etc which are above 1.5lacs.Even the RE500 , you get to test ride only when you do the booking amount of 1K, Else its a straight NO.. and afcourse the dealers have their own say, they dont want to give test ride to all the customers when they assume not everyone is going to book and waste of fuel for the dealer, that being said , we need to list only those bikes which ppl get for test ride… friends who buy will definitely not give a test ride atlest for next 1year :)

Krishna, I disagree. You can test a C500 without booking it. I have personally seen many test ride the bike and the dealer is least bothered. He does not even go sit behind the person who is test riding. Also about friends, it depends on your closeness with them. I don’t ask, I simply nick their bikes away :p

Hello Fas

Well in your case it might have come true that the dealer did give you to test ride. Im not that lucky , only after i booked for one and gave him the booking amount of 1K ,he did mention if i would want to test ride, afcourse i rejected the offer though ..well if it had been mentioned prior to the booking , then i would say that would have been a respectable gesture from the dealer, anyways let me wait for my Classic ..i believe i have another 6 months wait ..4 months over :)
