While enthusiasts are waiting for the upgraded Pulsar 200 and the upgraded Pulsar 220, Bajaj seems to give the Pulsar 180 preference and is planning to launch it before the other Pulsars. The reason can be quite obvious – The TVS Apache 180. There is a very miniscule rise in power to 17.02PS @ 8500rpm compared to the earlier P180s power output of 16.51PS at the same rpm. Thanks to the borrowed swingarm from the 220/Avenger, the kerb weight has gone up to 147kgs from an earlier 143kgs. The wheelbase has also increased by 25mm to 1345mm. The bike no longer has  kick-start and the rider will have to rely on battery power for ignition.

Visually, this bike looks strikingly similar to the Pulsar 200 but a trained eye can quickly spot the difference. Bajaj have once again mixed and matched a lot of components from its portfolio to make the 180 appear evn more muscular. The exhaust styling remains unchanged though. The bike will be available across all Bajaj showromms by the end of this week. It is likely to retail for around Rs.3,000 more than the previous 180 model. The upgrade Pulsar 180 is expected to be launched by end of this month.

Upgrades in the 2009 Pulsar 180 :-

Front Suspension:
The bike now gets the 37mm fork assembly from the Pulsar 220 and promises more stability in corners. The bottom pipes are finished in matte black unlike the silver used on the 220.

Steering Tee:
The steering tee is lifted straight from the 220′s chasis again. The new 180 also gets the clip-ons from the 220 which should aid handling and wrist comfort to an extent.

Rear Suspension, Tyre and Sprockets:
The swingarm for the new 180 comes from the 220/Avenger and is finished in black. The rear sprocket and the O-ring chain come from the 200. The rear tyre is wider with a 120 section width similar to the 200/220.

Seating:
The outgoing models single step seat unit has been traded in for split seats from the 200/220. The pillion seat gets th same grabrails as the bigger Pulsars.

Body Panels:
While the majority of the body panels remain similar to the outgoing 180, the new bike gets the tank extensions from the 200. The ‘Pulsar’ monogram on the tank is more pronounced with a metallic finish unlike the rubberized one on the 200/220.

Seating:
The outgoing models single step seat unit has been traded in for split seats from the 200/220. The pillion seat gets th same grabrails as the bigger Pulsars.

Bajaj is also going to revamp the Pulsar 150 but the changes are purely cosmetic. The bike will merely receive the ‘All Black’ treatment for is engine and alloy wheels The tank extensions of the Pulsar 200 have also managed to find a place on the 2009 Pulsar 150.

  2. fas Says:

Raghuvart, the launch is most likely to happen within a weeks time. The new Pulsar 150 has only cosmetic upgrades. The engine and the gearbox is still the same so yes, you can expect the engine to overheat.

  3. Prabhakar Says:

I am waitin for this 180 machine… When it wil reach our indian showrooms…? and wat wil be the mileage?

  4. fas Says:

Prabhakar, the new Pulsar 180 will be launched anytime soon. The mileage is expected to be around 40-45kmpl.

  5. Prabhakar Says:

Hi.. whether the new p180 hav oil cooler and trip meters lik in p200? If the kick start is not there means it wil be a drawback only… tell me somethin abt tat… i dont know much abt these things…

  6. fas Says:

Well the engine is not being upgraded so no oil cooler. Kick start not being there is int a drawback because you don’t need kick start when self start has high reliability.

  7. Sarang Says:

Is p180 really coming soon or not. does it really give the feeling of driving like 200¿ If it is really coming soon then please provide the nearabout launch date.

  8. fas Says:

Sarang, the new Pulsar 180 should be launched within a weeks time. It rides the same as the current Pulsar 180 and not like the Pulsar 200.

  9. Sarang Says:

What will be the onroad price of new p180

  10. deep Says:

if the increase in price is around 3000…..thenthe price @ bangalore should be 69500+3000=72500 approx

why wouldnt one got for p200 paying 6000 more…..

  11. Pradeep Says:

    Hi,
Is there any difference in seat height (prevsly it was 760 mm for p180)

I am bit short but p150 and p180 were good for me :)

    Please clarify

  12. Sarang Says:

How much mileage will this new p180 give in city conditions as the width of tire and engine power is increased ?

  13. fas Says:

Pradeep, I don’t think seat height will be a issue for you for any Pulsar variant.

Sarang, the P180 will give around 40-45kmpl. It is not recommended to increase tyre width.

  14. anuj Says:

new p180 is in showrooms bt is not being in selling bcoz bajaj wil first clear its old p180 stock thn the new p180 wil roll out..

  20. fas Says:

Sandeep, you won’t face any issue riding any Pulsar due to your height or weight. Why don’t you take a test ride?

  21. Karan Says:

  26. Nilesh Says:

    Hi I’m Nilesh from Pune..

Bajaj has to come its upcoming releases of PULSAR 200 & 220 2009 ASAP….hopefully at end of MAY2009 or in 1st week of JUNE 2009

afterall rainy season is around corner..hence so hurry..!!

Finaly it is seen that TVS gone be launching Apache 180 with rear disk Brakes…seems to be again copied strategy from Bajaj of P200 upcoming…so that they can take over current launched Bajaj Pulsar 180…and also can compete with new 2009 Pulsar 200…

TVS S**ks…all again by adopting n copying all strategies of BAJAJ PULSAR family so far…!!!!!!!

I hope people also eying this COPYing theory of TVS from BAJAJ…and hence go for STYLING,BIG,definitely MALE BAJAJ PULSAR FAmily…the upcoming……!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

Now its BAJAJ turn.. looks like ball is in their pocket..so they have to go ahead ASAP and strat PULSAR 180 selling along with DTS-iFi(Fuel injection)with Power of 18PS and all digital indicators like low fuel, battery etc, with Rear disk brakes….from 1st week of JUNE 2009…

However,they-BAJAJ must go ahead one step ahead of TVS(rather than waiting release of tvs apache 180)and LAUNCH newly upgraded PULSARS ****200DTS-i FI(fuel injection-Oil cooled):POWER 20PS
    # MONO shock SUSPENSION in place of current dual one……
    # with clip on handle bars, wider forks from 220 family..
    # Rear Disk brake
    # 6 gears theory and not the 5 one (1st,2nd down and then nutral,3,4,5,6th..)with DIGITAL GEAR indicator…
    # Digital clock console….
    # Colurs – 2 mores like in addtion orange, golden yellow similar to P300 available at net
    # Wider Rear Tyre more than current P200,220 to compte FZ16…
    # Head lite wiser design similar to P300 available on net to compte FZ16..

AND the launches has to be done in the end of MAY 2009 OR 1st week of June 2009…………
After all Youngers/People know very well which are the best styling and performance bikes
being the first leading initiator from START itself…Offcourse BAJAJ- PULSAR family etc..

  27. Anurag Says:

guys, the new 180 UGIV is launched in kolkata, i just took a test drive, rides good, looks even better..price on road is Rs.72780. seems to me like a good buy..i m making up my mind in a couple of days. my only concern was the absence of kick start, can be a risk affair sumtime. the bike has a good sports riding posture..i mean the angle in which the gear & brake levers are placed..hv to get used to it..wats up with u guys..ne breaking news/updates d bike?

  28. fas Says:

Anurag, you should checkout the Apache before you get the Pulsar. The Apache 180 is expected to be so good, that it can trump the bigger Pulsar 200.

The batteries are now low maintenance so lack of a kick start is not a issue.

  29. Anurag Says:

Fas, thanks for ur suggestion, i wud surely also see tvs. do u hv ne concrete news wen tvs will launch its new apache 180.

  30. fas Says:

Anurag, the new Apache should have been launched by now, but I guess Bajaj and TVS are playing games. The new Apache is expected anytime soon.

Checkout pictures of the Apache 180 at http://www.motorbeam.com/bikes/tvs-apache/tvs-apache-rtr-180-pictures/

I want to know whether the problem of not displaying the speedometer light(orange) when we started ingear is resolved or not in this version of Pulsar 150 and 180 upgrades.

Please try to resolve this type of issues and then release the models, if not people will obviously go for other models.

Note: Not only look, Performance and Low Cost maintenance is also a matter for choosing a bike. So correct these problems with Pulsar……..

  39. Nitin Says:

Whether bajaj have any perticular warentty on siliencers?Because there is always a problem with the siliencer of most bajaj.

  40. fas Says:

Nitin, I think all Bajaj vehicles come with basic warranty and Bajaj should be strong with their silencers when they have patented their exhaust technology :p
