Bajaj Auto has phased out the Pulsar 200 to make way for the new Pulsar 220, as both were priced on a par, despite the latter being more powerful. The new Pulsar 220, launched three weeks earlier, is a refurbished version of the earlier model launched in December 2006. The Pulsar 200 was launched in January 2007 and carried an ex-showroom price of about Rs. 70,000/- However, to take on competing products in the premium category (priced upwards of Rs. 65,000/-) with the likes of Yamaha FZ16, Yamaha R15, Hero Honda Karizma and the TVS Apache 180, Bajaj has slashed the price of Pulsar 220 by more than Rs 15,000/- It will now be sold at Rs. 70,000/- ex-showroom.
“The carburettored version of the new Pulsar 220, which has been launched, offers higher power and better performance at a much lesser price. So, continuing with the Pulsar 200 was not possible, as it was priced in the similar range. We wanted to offer the buyers a better bike at an affordable rate,” S SridharS Sridhar, chief executive, Bajaj Auto said.
The bike, however, is still available in select showrooms at the earlier price without any discounts. Some units of the Pulsar 200 are available with probiking dealers and there will be no more supply of the Pulsar 200 from Bajaj. The Pulsar 200 has a 198.8cc engine, which delivers 18 bhp power, while the Pulsar 220 has a 220cc engine, which generates 21.04 bhp of peak power. Although the new Pulsar 220 is heavier than the Pulsar 200 by five kg, at 150 kg, it is faster than the smaller sibling at 144 km/hour, as compared to 130 km/hour.
The company is bullish on the new Pulsar to spruce sales beyond the 48,062 units of the whole Pulsar range sold by it in June. Te Pulsar range contributes to about half the company’s monthly sales, but a bulk of the profitability. Currently, the company produces three models under the Pulsar brand — Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180 and Pulsar 220. All the three models have only recently gone through a face-lift labelled as the ‘2009 edition’.

hmm…temme 1 thing is the 200 dead or we can still expect itz rebirth?? coz i hav heared people sayin that 200′s production is stopped but not discontinued…so i want to clear this doubt…coz i have waited for about 6months for 200 withrear disc…:-(

Gears, the P200 is not coming in the near future, thats confirmed and we have to just move on. You know we can’t wait for Bajaj, because they are so not punctual.

Hello Friends,
one thing you all keep in mind that Bajaj has killed intentionally current face lifted n most salable bike of Bajaj P200 model, to save the life of P150 n P180 by giving mainly looks of P200, with some advanced feature that comes from P200/P220 respectively.
May be hope that new model of Pulsar 200 is near in future to be launched before Kawaski Ninja-250 launch (the September-October launch) or after 2-3 months later of launch of Ninja.
However it would take,still min 2-3 months more to come see new news on new P200 model.since P220 has been launched just now on 23rd June 2009.
May be Bajaj has planned to launch new Pulsar 200 as per design taken from P300 (available details on net)with mono shock.No doubt one is without Fi(DTS-i)so can come around price of 74-74.5K on road and other with Fi version along with Fi version of 220cc.
[Right now P180(launched on 23rd April 2009) comes around 69K on road which is carbon copy of P200 with extra clip on handlebars,wider forks(taken fro m220) goodies with Battery indicator.only P200 silencer is not provided n so oil cooled.anyway Great / awesome bike n move by Bajaj.
N P220 comes around 78-79K onroad every where : The Fastest sexy Indian]
i.e.
In Pune,
P180 (Power:17 ps- 2009) comes around 69K ON ROAD. n
P220 (Power:21 ps- 2009) comes around 78K ON ROAD.
so there is still scope for “New Pulsar 200?(Power:19.5 ps- 2009/2010) could be launched(with new design as I said) around price tag of 74K-74.5K ON ROAD.
So new P200[with power 19.5 Ps,rear disk brake,wider tires,mono shock] would be coming in near future/around corner(as Bajaj working with KTM[with above150-250 n higher bikes segment] on it)once the sales figure of P180 n P220 are reached to PEAK.
[especially with/after launch of other companies models like karizmaZMR225/yamaha180-200/apache200 to compete with them and not with it’s current 2009 Own pulsar models)

it’s really disappointing dat 200 phased out but now 180 comes in 200 looks,,,,,,,,axcept the silencer………..is there any possibility or any guess about 180 coming with 200′s silencer……………in near future………….?????

As u said,P180 can come with 200′s silencer in future but NOT in near future,since the new launch of P180 was happened just before 3 months i.e. in April end-2009.
So it may take minimum time period of 6-12 months(mainly 1 year)to make this happen by Bajaj.And as Nilesh said, it totally depends on the new launch of P200 in near future n we need to see/check out whether it carries still the same silencer what P200 used to be.
Also it depends on the heat that generates from other company bike launches in near future..!!

Tillu, your right, Bajaj might make some changes on the Pulsar 180 later on. If you notice, they launched the P220 without black wheels and I was sure that they launched it without black wheels so they can launch a new version of the P220 with black wheels.

Perfect fas..! so we can say that Bajaj might come up with the upgrades in new Pulsar 180 2009 Later (after min.1 year from this launch)like Rear disc brake,P200 silencer,[Liquid cooled engine-next KTM launches],more power to engine,wider rear-front tires.
Other features like gear indicator,new head light wiser design and mono shock…Fuel injection.. those options also have been kept purposely OPEN by Bajaj in this launch..!!
We can say Bajaj would be adding this as part of upgrades when they get a competition heat especially ahead from Yamaha etc….in Premium segment..!!!
we could/might see above listed features in next launches of P200 n P220.. as I said..!!
Till that time,Guys Enjoy the current Fresh Pulsar segment released/launched by Bajaj this year (P150/180/220 DTS-i)rather than waiting…since all look awesome and Sexier …Fast…and Best.est.est………………………………in Look/features/Power/Biggies/design/Mileage/Price wise …………………… !! ALL in One Package..!!! :-) which u can’t see anywhere right now..in Premium segment of 180-250cc…!!!!! :-)

Worst thing that bajaj can do is destroy p200 desigen…….and that is also done by desigening p220 similar to p2oo. But i think if p200 and p220(2010) is kept in same place p200 looks a lot better………I don’t know the reason, but thats the truth.

pulsar220 is best in pickup but not in smoothness!!!
