Bajaj Pulsar 180 NS Caught Testing, Launch Soon

2014 Pulsar 180

Bajaj Auto launched the Discover 100M yesterday and now the company’s focus is likely to shift to its flagship brand, the Pulsar. It’s no secret that Bajaj Auto is working on two new Pulsars for launch later this year. One would be a sub 200cc Pulsar while the other would be the fastest Pulsar yet, that too significantly faster than the 200 NS. The sub 200cc Pulsar seems to be doing the test rounds on the outskirts of Pune as the Pulsar 200 NS look alike motorcycle was recently spotted.

Now this bike can either be an improved Pulsar 200 NS, probably carrying a fuel injection system or it might be a Pulsar 180 NS, which takes all design and hardware from the 200 NS. Most likely, it’s the latter and since the test mules are now being openly spotted, we feel the launch is around the corner, right in time for the festive season. The Pulsar 375 is a full faired machine which seems to take heavy design inspiration from the Energica EGO electric bike. The P375 will share engine components with the Duke 390.

The upcoming Pulsar 180 NS might not replace the current Pulsar 180 although we feel that would be a sensible option considering the small price gap to keep both models on sale. The 180 NS is likely to feature a 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine (3 spark plugs, maybe) which produces around 19 BHP of power and 16 Nm of torque. It is going to be underpinned by a perimeter frame, boasting of 50:50 weight distribution. The 6-speed gearbox will do cog shifting duties while the tyres and brakes will be the same size as the 200 NS. Expect the Pulsar 180 NS to be priced around Rs. 85,000/- with the bike competing with the TVS Apache 180.

180 doesn’t make sense ….Discontinue the 180 and make the 150 a 160 and give it looks like NS and its techs …

I believe the new model will be P160NS. It doesn’t make any sense to discontinue current P150/180 as they still outsell the competition comfortably. Given the 4-valve liquid cooling tech, even a 160cc engine can produce about 20bhp, which should be terrific with monoshock, tubeless tyres & perimeter frame. Later they can come up with P135NS, while retaining P135LS as entry level Pulsar.

Could very well be an updated 200 NS similar to Indonesia model. Front fender is a clear giveaway.

BAJAJ should have its line up this way:-
    Discover 100T – 10Ps
    Discover 125T – 13Ps
    Pulsar 150NS – 17Ps
Pulsar 200 – 23.5Ps – Naked and Half faired options
Pulsar 300 – 32Ps – Half and Full faired options
    Pulsar 375 – 43Ps – Faired only

They shouldnt make bikes with 20cc, 25cc as variants as they go up.. they will only confuse their potential customers as well as disappoint the existing brand loyals… Instead they should set 2 years as the time in which there would be the next most updated version ready.. with the cc being the same..

Bajaj should strictly focus on customer’s satisfaction especially interms of service centers.. instead of launching Zillion variants.. only to discontinue them whenever they want!! Hurts the loyal customers.. really..

Reason why triple spark wont make it to the lower models is because Bajaj has clearly mentioned that the use of triple spark is going to be on Pulsar 200NS and higher than 200 NS only. We wont see triple spark anywhere below the 200NS
