Bajaj Pulsar 220 Upgrade

Bajaj plans to upgrade the Pulsar 220 cosmetically by giving it the black theme. The Pulsar 180 & 200 already have the black theme and we wonder why Bajaj launched the Pulsar 220 without black wheels. Actually we know why Bajaj did not launch the Pulsar 220 with black wheels, simply because they would want to do this later. I think Bajaj is feeling the heat from Yamaha.

The Black themed Pulsar 220 should be launched along with the upgraded Pulsar 200. Bajaj plans to launch the Pulsar 200 with FI which would give the Pulsar 200 a competitive edge against the Yamaha FZ16.

Update – 20/04/2009

According to a senior representative of Bajaj Auto, the company will continue to refine and evolve its home-grown sportsbike – the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi. He added that there will be certain styling changes, engine tweaks, perhaps monoshock rear suspension, better brakes and revamped instrumentation.

Better late then never. But What I feel is that Bajaj did not do that black theme in the first place as they were sure that the bike would sell due to its technical superiority alone and so die hard bikers will not really care much abt the all black theme …. I must say poor and arrogant thinking by Bajaj which really prevented this beautiful bike from taking off. But better late then never and hope they learn their lessons for future also ….

Along wid black theme Bajaj should also give the Pulsar 220 monosuspension, steel badging and new front fairing and rear lights.

Oh yes … I agree with Raj above. If you are trying to compete with the R15 better excel the competition and so that would mean doing all those things and then redoing some .. like getting sticky tubeless radials :)

Raj Anand and Sumit i agree with what you have to say, but Bajaj won’t give the Pulsar 220 any new upgrades other then the black theme. If Bajaj give the Pulsar 220 mono suspension and a minor light upgrade then the Pulsar 220 would be so much better. I am sure not many would like to be riding a performance bike which looks similar to a 150cc commuter bike.

i do agree what many people say about what they wish to see in their favourite bikes.Such favorite things include FI, mono-suspension and many other cosmetic goodies. These things if included will proportanately shoot up the price of the bike. In a competetive market like India price is very critical and this was one of the reasons why HH was not introducing FI in Karizma. Finally, its wish to have a wish-list but do consider the cost factor…i am one of those guys who wish my Karizma has FI, twin head lights, LED tail lamp and many more techies. But then i will surely think 101 times before buying it after seeing the price…

  6. fas Says:

Atluri very well said. Yes giving more features will make the price higher but don’t you think HH should update the Karizma. So many manufacturers are giving FI and HH should give the Karizma fuel injection asap.

    Hi All,

It’s a shame bajaj couldnt launch this bike at the time of R-15 launch date, atlease they would have eaten up, if not a big chunk, atleast some of R-15′s profit. You just cant compare the Pulsar to R-15. R-15 is in a different planet altogether. But launcing the all black 220 now, i feel wouldnt make much difference to R-15, coz people have already know how good the R-15 is. The only way Bajaj can take it’s revenge is with THE NINJA…..

Ofcourse it was stupid thinking by bajaj which has killed the 220 even before it being born. I dont know what they were thinking and how they got it all wrong with this one particular bike. Maybe they can learn their lessons for the future …. arrogancy is not good for anybody … if yamaha were not able to get away with it in the past then bajaj wont in the present :)

bajaj should introduce a new shape bored off of the same style

  17. Jeeshan Says:

Forget about the chrome, only black theme.(turned out to be a poor strategy for bajaj)
What really pinches me is the extra-ordinarily ordinary console of the bike which is same as the 150,180 and 200.(anaekta mein aekta)
PLease tell me whats so special about the R15,that bike performs like an average 150 in city riding, not much pickup at lower RPMs which is usual in city traffic.
And yamaha firstly made a fool out of the people in the initial R15 bookings, those decieving Bhp figures.

220 has a different presence on the roads, i dont know why but that bike attracts me with its charm.I was really impressed with it’s pickup and top speed figures which I practically experienced at the probiking showroom at Pune (the first PB showroom to house P220)
0-100 km/hr was pretty quick and reached 136 km/hr on Dyno.

Bike is impressive and best suited for Indian conditions with an excellent fuel efficiency.

The R15 is low on power, but weighs quite less. It has delta box frame and unheard of technology which makes it very good in handling. Thus the R15 has so much popularity. The Pulsar 220 is a very good bike but it looks like a grown up Pulsar 150.

  19. Sidh Says:

Pulsar 220 looks like 150. Thats poor thinking by bajaj of black theme. Bajaj must b change 220′s looks. Bajaj make their 220 different from other pulsars family.

  20. Abhisek Verma Says:

i think the styling is good. but they should hv kept the bike apart from the pulsar family. bajaj should create a new named bike!!!! pulsar now sounds dated for 220cc bike. it rides the fastest in indian bikes in my opinion. tank should be redesigned for pulsar 220. Can the 150cc r15 compete in speed wid p220. not possible yarr…

    Reply

  21. Sanjay Kadam Says:

well, tht’s just a monotonous implementation of idea, and on the 220 it’s no different but rather begged for. bajaj so far has enjoyed the popularity for being the first at every segment be it 150, 180 200…
and 135 too….and it’s deserved success can’t be denied until. yamaha wakes up from it’s slumber and honda already having big plans with the launch of cbf stunner 125.

bajaj, saw the change coming in the indian 2 wheeler industry, were quick to act upon, now let’s see how our desi makers mar the foreign competitors

  31. fas Says:

Hi Aditya, the Pulsar 200 FI wont launch now, it will launch by May according to what I have heard. You can fit HIDs to the 220 but you really dont need to since the 220 has very good lights. Pros are better lightning and cons are price.

Reuben James,u can opt for philips one….its the best one…..there are many options available based on specific temperature and colour of the bulb.u can get one at abt. Rs. 4000-10000.
H7 is the bulb size.220 has the H7 bulb size which is very difficult to find in markets as most cars has H4 bulb size and thus shop-keepers don’t keep H7 size in stock.

Aditya, TVS was supposed to launch the Apache 180 last year but due to negative market sentiments, they have postponed the launch. HH has been saying since a long time about the new ZMA but its all talk and no show, so we really cant trust them till they luanch a new Karizma. Go ahead get the new P220, its the best bike in the segment.

Guys Bajaj will launch the upgraded P220 soon. There is no change in digital console and frankly speaking the digital consoles on the Pulsars seem to become boring now. The RTR has a fantastic digital console.
