Bajaj plans to upgrade the Pulsar 220 cosmetically by giving it the black theme. The Pulsar 180 & 200 already have the black theme and we wonder why Bajaj launched the Pulsar 220 without black wheels. Actually we know why Bajaj did not launch the Pulsar 220 with black wheels, simply because they would want to do this later. I think Bajaj is feeling the heat from Yamaha.
The Black themed Pulsar 220 should be launched along with the upgraded Pulsar 200. Bajaj plans to launch the Pulsar 200 with FI which would give the Pulsar 200 a competitive edge against the Yamaha FZ16.
Update – 20/04/2009
According to a senior representative of Bajaj Auto, the company will continue to refine and evolve its home-grown sportsbike – the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi. He added that there will be certain styling changes, engine tweaks, perhaps monoshock rear suspension, better brakes and revamped instrumentation.

Congrats Leonardo on your new Pulsar 220 :)
HI Guys, At last got my P220. It feels gud 2 ride one, but i guess the rear disc is a bit disappointing
@Das,
Even I’ve a similar feeling about the rear break. Being Disc breaks It’s not that stuff. Even i found that the rear breaking is not that good. The probiking guy had told me that they have kept it lose to avoid skitting of bike but they can tight the rear breaks.
hi fas………fas wat is the d problem in the rear disc of p220?????i read the reviews dey suggests about the rear disc problem.is that problem will be a drawback 4 p220???????????
Nichu, Bajaj has not been able to calibrate the rear disc very well. At times the rear disc acts more of a spoilsport. Dust easily gets accumulated around it, due to which the brake does not work all that effectively.
fas ever1 told dat dtsi engine ve complaints.the maintance cost is very high.we cant trust the dtsi engine. is any truth in it fas???????? if so pls tell me more about the problems of the dtsi engine…..
Nichu, I have not heard any such things about the DTSi engine. Maybe its to do with older Pulsar models but I don’t think the new DTSi engines have any problems.
guys dont worrry i hav not got my p220 delivrd yet bt…….. rear discs r like tht only ….. its not goin to b n e draw back ……….. jus go out and have a test ride of yamaha r15 …………….ull come to knw ……and if they could have kept same as frnt ones .. bikes wud skit badly …… anyways how is the perfomance … does it have better feel thn zma or fz
leo and raj u guys r frm wich city
Sam I am from Nasik, Pulsar 220 is awesome to ride go for it. Only the drawbacks are that the stand hits the speedbreaker if you are riding with a pillion and the mirrors are not so effective.
fas does p220 ve any vibrations?????????i ve fz16 and my friend is goin to take a p220.we ve a small confusion that does the p220 ve any vibration bcz fz is so vibration free and v do not feel any vibration at all/at 70 km/hr it doesnt feel any vibration.wat is ur opinion fas???????
y raj anand is suggesting dat p220s mirrors r not so effective??????????wat is the actual problem 4 the mirrors?????can v fix the problem???????
Gopu, the P220 has no vibrations below 80kmph. But as the speed increases there might be some vibrations but its vastly improved over previous Pulsars.
Gopu the mirrors are not so nice as we cannot see the road properly, most of the portion of the mirrors is covered by rider’s elbow seen in the mirrors. The handle of the mirrors must be extended by few more centimetres.
raj how is ur rear disc??????????is it comfort 4 u????????raj did u fel any vibration????????raj i ve 2000 model cbz in dat bike i fel vibration @above 60km.did u fel dat kind of vibration???????? wat is ur beasts milleage??????
fas about the vibration of p220 i ve a doubt….ie im the owner of 2000 model cbz when it reaches @60km it began 2 vibrate.i ride p200 cbz extreme fz16 etc.i feel vibration except fz16..does the p220 ve the vibration same as the p220??????????u knw 1st i dont like bajaj but nw im the fan of p220.i buked my beast.but dis vibration is my problem.i like fz16 but my friend gopu has fz16 so v decided to buy a p220….is our decision is rite fas?????????if p220 has vibration like p200 it ll be so disappoint to me????can u solve my doubt fas????????bcz i didnt test ride the bike.so pls help me fas………
fas in a p220 review i read dat p220 dont ve a gud sound wat does they meant by dat????
Nichu, yes the P200 has vibration issues. And though Bajaj has tried their level best on the P220, there will be some vibration at high speeds. Though the vibration won’t be as much as previous Pulsars, there will be vibrations and it won’t be vibration free like the FZ16.
fas pls help me my wish is to take a p220.i like p220 dtsfi but its price is a big problem for me.but now p220 is only for 78000 its a affordable price for me.this bike is a value for money bike.but now my problem is its milleage.my friends told that its milleage is about 30km is it true fas.i ned minimum of 40km will i get that milleage fas?
Nichu you cannot feel the vibration on the new 220, I am getting an average of 30 kmpl but my friend gets 40+ kmpl. Rear disc’s are OK
Rajesh, the P220 DTSi is better than P220 DTSFi as it has more features and is faster too. You will get mileage between 30-40kmpl, it depends on your riding. If you drive slow and smoothly you will get 40kmpl.
hi fas…….fas i ve a doubt dat if i ride the bike by shifting the each gear on 4500-5000 rpm & maximum speed @ 60km then ll i get the milleage of 40+
fas compare to r15 which bike ll u prefer r15 or p220???????so confussing yaar????compare dese 2 bikes & give me a gud conclusion my friend????anyway u r doin a gud job my friend…..by asking u v can clear our all doubts about any bike….thax yaar.
Nichu, your most welcome. I am glad I am able to offer you help and thus you can make a better buying decision. If you shift at 4500-5000 rpm you would get around 35kmpl mileage. But since your limiting your top speed to 60kmph you might get around 38kmpl. Better to shift earlier if your not going above 60kmph. If you shift at around 3000 rpm you can get 40kmpl. The Yamaha R15 is very refined. You can’t find a single fault in that bike, quality is superb, but when it comes to value for money the Pulsar 220 is a better bet. I would choose the Pulsar 220 myself because the R15 is a little short for me.
hey fas!! My center stand crashes a lot with the ground!!
haven’t u experienced it??
Is there any solution to it except removing it???
Vishal, thats one majoy issue with the Pulsar 220. The best solution is to remove it. If you don’t want to remove it, tie it up so it doesn’t get loose.
Hi Leo en Raj, Hey guys very busy with your bikes i guess. So howz the performance of you machine mate. Mine is giving me an avg of 43 kmpl till now hope to c an improvement after the 1st servicing. Nywaz lets meet some weekend for a P220 meet. Wat say???????????
Hii Das I am loving the performance of my bike completed around 380 kms. How many kms have you done ?? You and Leo are from Pune right ?? I will be getting my permanent driving license on next Monday and we shall meet for sure but let this swine flu and the rain go away, lets go out for a ride from Mumbai to Pune or some nice place but in October, the reason for this delay is that there will be no rain to spoil our ride and no tension of swine flu and our bike’s second servicing will also be completed, What do u say Leo and Das ??
Hi Raj, Lets do it then. The weather will also be perfect then. BY the way i have completed 590 kms and already due for servicing. Wat say Leo??????
fas u said that rid the bike below 3000 rpm but in the owners mannual of the p220 it is written that ride the bikke @ 60km/hr before the 1st service.y it is written like dat????
Nichu, if you ride in 5th gear at 60kmph than the rpm will be around 3500 which is ideal for running in the bike.
Hi guys i had completed my 2nd servicing recently and yesterday I took my bike to139 kmph. I would have hopefully reached more if it wasn’t for the crossing lane….. It feels awsome guys… Will try for more….
Anyone else tried yet ??????
Hey Leonardo are u too from Pune ?? I and Das are waiting for your reply on the above comments.
Pulsar 220DTSi Rear Disc Brake is Not Good
I agreed,
Rear disc brake is not good.
I got my black on last sunday….. it seems that rear brake is not good :(
Guys just check if you can fit Disc Brake Calipers of front disc brake in rear disc.
Bcos I think braking depends on the calipers that are being used.
Riding is very smooth.
Suggestion – If you can slown down your bike while crossing the speed braker then your central stand is not a problem for you at all.
Guys,
Howz the average ur bike is giving you ?
raj wat millege do u get now????????
fas did bajaj change their sound of the horn.i blew my horn but i feel a different sound compare to another pulsar.now the sound of the horn is not so gud.
Nichu, maybe Bajaj changed the sound of the horn. I am not aware about it though. You can put a horn suiting your requirements for Rs. 200/- from a local accessory store.
fas bike is superb smart bike i liked the bike more than r15
Nichu, the R15 is a little overpriced for a 150 machine, if it was 200cc people would still consider it.
I just got delivery of p220 dts-i.Just one word awesome.brakes speed sitting position gears tires everything except mirror useless.
got delivery in evening so vl be checking breaks and mileage soon.
Happy riding……………..
Bikes is at best on signals….People just keep on watching the fastest Indian on their mean machines.as we come and get disappeared as signal light goes green
Hii fas did you buy the new 220 ??? Also 1 doubt – I always cover my bike with a silver garage cover Rs.280, I only ride twice a week due to rain, rest of the time my bike is covered, will the cover make minor scratches on my bike, I have seen some on my bike. How should I prevent it from scratches because cover is also important to save it from other kids. Will teflon coat remove minor scratches ??
Raj, I have not bought the P220 yet. You can get the bike polished regularly which will prevent scratches and also remove them. If the quality of the cover is bad it can cause scratches to the bike.
hey fas, i got my transformer day b4 yesterday, completed 200kms,with a top speed of 73km/hr intially i found bike is givin an average of just 25km/lit, but when i made attempts at a service station to get a fuel lock i discovered it was leakin petrol beneath the carb, went to probikin and they entertained well and solved it for me, its fab piece of power.
the probikin guys said u dont have a standard fuel lock for this masterpiece, so wut do i do?????? i need it cz i stay in a hostel with a hand full of fuc*ers around.
Desh, you should go ahead and get the fuel lock as its possible to rob fuel. Probiking guys are right as usually you don’t need a fuel lock but in your situation its advisable you go ahead and get one.
fas, what speed limit and rpm should i follow with my new bike(220), i have twice touched 70 km/hr on day 1 but it was only for a second, will it affect my bike, since then it hasn’t gone par 65.its performing well and given an average near to 40
Sod, stick to 60kmph and 3000rpm. Don’t worry about you touching 70kmph one, its all ok.
