Hero MotoCorp’s dirt bike has been doing the rounds all over the internet off late and now thanks to our good friends at Motoroids and Deepak Dongre (active commentator on MotorBeam), we can now confidently say which is that dirt bike. The Hero MotoCorp dirt bike is none other than the Honda NXR150 Bros, which is sold in Brazil as dual (on road and off-road) bike. It can run on both petrol and ethanol but the Indian version will only run on petrol. The NXR150 Bros uses a 149.2cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, OHC engine which produces 13.8 BHP of power and 13.6 Nm of torque. It uses Honda’s PGM-FI (fuel injection) system and has a tank capacity of 12 liters (2.3 liter reserve).
The instrument cluster of the NXR150 Bros has a odomoter, tripmenter, fuel gauge, turn indicators, light indicators and warning lights for the FI system. The telescopic suspension at the front has 180mm travel. The monoshock suspension at the rear has 150 mm stroke. With 240 mm front discs and 110 mm rear drums, the NXR150 sports high profile tyres for bad roads. Expect the bike to have a saree guard for India when Hero MotoCorp launches it later on in 2012. This is one of the bikes which Hero MotoCorp gets from Honda as part of its licensing deal which runs till 2014. The dirt bike weighs just 119 kgs and is available in red, orange and black colours.

How many would actually buy a Dirt bike to commute? Or a dirt bike to college? or a dirt bike to office? i dont understand why they are bringing a dirt bike which doesnt have the potential to sell in huge numbers like how HH did all the years. If they have licensing agreement in place till 2014 why not get some proper bikes and tech from honda. There are plenty of other honda bikes.
This reminds me of that old bajaj SX enduro.
Hero motocorp thinks that Indians still lives in villages on mountains and without roads.Looks like an ugly pig.If they want to bring a off roader then why not something like KTM’s Dirt Bikes. Now even Honda wants to supply some model to Hero that will flop in market and eventually spoil its brand image. lol…….
^^Certainly not an ugly pig- not to me at least. At least its well proportioned in design for its category. Which of the bikes in India are good looking…except a couple. Huge bulky fairings with needle tapering tails- I guess I don’t need to point out which. Not sure how many people think practically- but to me I would say for a country like India wherein the so called metro cities have the worst roads specially during the monsoons. Ask me for the torture that I go through everyday riding on the western express highway here in Mumbai. For me this makes sense on two reasons, first of all it being a 150cc and with FI its going to give pretty decent mileage…second is it might not be a hardcore offroader- but it will definitely be easier of my bumps and back than my everyday present ride i.e. the Karizma- gives pretty poor mileage considering half of the time its stuck in jams. I’ll be upgrading to a bigger bike soon which will serve my touring needs- and as for the city with the rising cost of fuel- this should be a good workhorse.
Entirely my opinion though.
Dear Deepak, good points, agree with you. But monsoon stays for 2 months in India & daily users, office goers will be covered in mud because of too high mudguards.(purpose defeated) & if they tune it for good fuel efficiency then it will not perform, leave alone adventure sport, climbing mountains.(purpose defeated). The tyres are also of city bikes. It is an all show no go bike. It will be for a person who wants to be a little different from crowd(crow in flock of pigeons). If they want to launch an off roader, then they should launch a powerful and better bike so that it can perform upto the perpose it is made Off Roading.
Hey thanks Ninu for responding. Well you’re right..monsoons stays for 2 months and agree with you on the mud splashing issue. But if you see while riding, its the engine that takes all the spray and not our legs (even the CBR250R has a very short mudguard) unless and until you go through a pool of water or muck. In that case even the regular road bikes are no different, hence you have people putting those boards on their bikes to save their feet and trousers. And once the monsoon goes after 2 months, I think its no issues, no slush, no muck. About tyres- I guess you are under a wrong impression about the bike, its not a hardcore offroader- its basically an urban bike. Do our so called sports bikes have racing tyres ;) About offroading- well check out my last trip, if my present bike can- then the Honda will do it much better:

Didn’t we accept Rap and Rappers in music???
Similarly, Dirt Bike is a different Genre.
Why would World No. 1 company (seller) consider bringing this segment to India if there aint any potential / pie. Given their experience, they would have identified a young bunch waiting for these dirt bikes.
Good that HH is creating a new segment here.
Same as Tata did with Ace and Magic.
All who commented negatively above should be OLDies.
You dont get a dirt bike for commuting. LOL.
The market share may be small. but, there will be guys waiting to get their hands on these bikes atleast to get their girls head turn towards them. (i have seen guys leav their R15 for service and go back in their car with driver) Its a passion!
If the OEMs had your attitude, you would never have seen Audis and Beamers in India (atleast this early).
Good try from HH. They are leaving no stone unturned. the way Mahindra did.
Thats what i wanted to say,Fulfill the passion, passion of that segment buyers.R15,Audis BMW sells because of that.launch a better off roading bike in lines of KTMs and other off roaders.
I think that the NXR Bros 150 will have the Karizma’s tail-Light because it already has the Karizma’s rear mudguard & also because it has the rear looking larger in the spy pic’s compared to the Honda NXR Bros sold abroad. I also think it will be a 180cc because of the extra power it need’s to make it a fun to ride machine.
Hero is a fool no proper taste….
Dear Madhav, even I love Rap, but i prefer listning Eminem,50cents,daddy yankee and other good rappers rather than Baba sehgal. read my previous I dont hate dirt bikes but i dont like the product which Hero motocorp is launching.Being a world no. 1 company they should launch a world class product with good off roading capabilities. R15 is in a league of its own being just 150cc it still has 17.5bhp,razor sharp handlling, full fairing,Low profile tyres, sports bike frame, watercooled and rev happy engine. Thats why it sells.BMW and AUDIs sell because they didnt launched 1000cc 50 bhp, no premium features of their 3,5,7 series cars.LOL…my point is if you wana create a new segment then give us a good off roading product.Launch a lifestyle product, Dont take indians buyers for granted, give us eminem,50 cents rather than baba sehgal.
Dear Madhav, Hope you have understood what i wanted to say. Dont fool Indian customers an launch a good product with off roading capabilities. otherwise it wont be as successful as it could be with all the features.
A real foolish product. doesnt look similar to nxr150 too. looks much downgraded version. enjoy guys who like this. its ok not too bad or very good.
Another “CORPSE”from HERO MOTOR Corps
So many people mod their rx 100′s to look like a dirty bike….i dont see them taking it off road anywhere…i really do believe that this product has a market….
