Although Hero MotoCorp has already announced the prices of the Impulse a few weeks back, the company just recently put the website live. Based on Honda’s NXR Bros, which does duty in Brazilian markets, the Impulse is a dual purpose bike, which can be used on and off-road. Hero MotoCorp has used the same 149.1 cc motor that powers CBZ X-treme, Hunk and Achiever, producing 13.2 BHP of power at 7500 RPM and 13.4 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM. The torque has been increased for better off-road response.

The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Talking about the engine reliability, this 150 cc engine is one of the most reliable engines made by Hero. The chassis is strengthened with high tensile steel to take all the abusive loading on the bike. The ground clearance is 245 mm and is provided with telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The bike rides on 17 inch wheels. Hero Motocorp has priced the Impulse at Rs. 69,963/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and Rs. 78,330/- (on-road, Mumbai). Going by the pricing, the bike makes a good value for money product but the market forces will decide how popular it becomes. Meanwhile, you can check out the Impulse website here.

Hero Impulse is value for money? I believe price is where Impulse loses badly. Just to give a perspective albeit of a bike belonging to completely different class, Pulsar 180 offers more power, more torque, bigger disc brakes, wider tyres and yet costs 4000 less on-road than Impulse.

Sameer, the Impulse is a very different kind of bike. It can’t be compared to a Pulsar, because this bike is not about speed, it’s different. The Impulse has the almost go anywhere capability, which is its USP.

Fas, I feel this is just a commuter bike camouflaged with an off-roader skin. I wouldn’t call this an go anywhere bike. Just having high suspension doesn’t imply an offroader.

Deepak, compared to the normal commuters, this bike is more capable off-road.

P.S. Where were you for the past few days, didn’t see you ;-)

@Fas: Thanks man…well have been tied up. Am back firing comments on MB now.

@Gautam: Well its good if you say so- if am not wrong the NXR itself is an urban commuter and not a hardcore offroader in the Brazilian market. If I have to talk about an offroader from the Honda stable in the 150 category- what better than the CRF150. Here they have launched the NXR version with a Hunk engine which I feel is a serious underpowered mill. Anyways, I would love if you could highlight the features of the bike. Am sure all the MB fanatics (including me) would love to read :)
