Honda Launches Activa-i Scooter [Live]

Honda has launched the Activa-i scooter in India today, which uses the same 109cc, single-cylinder engine to produce 8 BHP of power and 8.74 Nm of torque (at 5500 RPM). This motor uses Honda’s Eco Technology (HET) which enables it to give a mileage of 60 km/l (claimed). The Honda Activa-i is priced at Rs. 44,200/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is offered in four colours namely white, purple, red and beige. Sales of the Honda Activa-i will start by the end of the month across all Honda dealerships in the country.

The Activa-i is Honda’s most affordable scooter and the company uses the tagline ‘Ready to Fly’. So what is so special about the Honda Activa-i? Well Honda has given the scooter quite a few feature like Combi Brake System (CBS), maintenance free battery, viscous air filter and tubeless tyres. The CBS reduces braking distance by 24% and the scooter comes with 18-litres of underseat storage. The company has reduced the weight and the Activa-i tips the scales at 103 kgs and has a ground clearance of 165 mm. The on-road Delhi price of the Honda Activa-i is Rs. 48,651/-. Honda plans to sell 1 lakh units of the Activa-i this fiscal and is targeting working people aged between 25-30 years.

Honda has also made some styling tweaks to the scooter (new instrument cluster and new tail light) and the grab rail has been modified to reduce force by 15% while putting the scooter on the main stand. The company claims that the Honda Activa-i is their first light weight personal compact automatic scooter, a segment which accounts for 25% of automatic scooter sales in India. Honda will start dispatches of the Dream Neo from the end of this month and the company’s annual capacity now stands at 46 lakh units from its three plants.

    The scooter is targeted at:
    One who doesn’t like the quirky styling of Dio but can’t afford Activa because of its price.
    It will be a good seller and may challenge the Yamaha Ray.

    Looks pretty compact from an outsider point of view, that extra storage space could come in handy as well. The launch will be crucial though I would say, as the market seems to be quite saturated at the moment.

    You launched Mastero against my Activa, now I have launched Activa-i against your Pleasure. After-all, why should Hero have all the Fun!? Perfect tale of Hero-Honda.
    And we were thinking of 125cc.
    But, thats the right product launched at right time since many female riders complained of Activa being heavy

    The design is pretty great to reduce the air friction and to increase better ergonomics. But it lacks the telescopic front suspension, which is present in the rivals. But since it focuses on Pleasure, Ray and Wego, it wont be a problem. I always loved the telescopic suspension which i think is present in Honda’s new 125 cc avatar. The HET technology is a welcome move by HMSI since mileage is a critical part in day to day travel.

    Ridiculous.. Whats the point in launching Activa in different colours and that too have a big PR campaign around it. If it was for looks, Activa isnt even close to Vespa, and Piaggio fly if it steps in to the Indian market will give Honda a run for its money..
    Was expecting the PCX150, or atleast a 125CC Activa with full body makeover.. Can’t understand what is it with these Japanese. they speak volumes about the Indian market and dont release new products??

    This is a copy of Vespa & wego. honda is struggling hard to save there market share since all their bike are dreaming. only way out to save grace is to sell scooter. after 2~3 year we will be having so many flops from honda. 250 flop, 150 flop, 125 medicore, 100flop, in bike only shine is shining rest are dreaming :D

    Looks very similar to Hero Pleasure.
    They could have launched it with bigger engine 125 cc & telescopic front suspension to compete with Suzuki Swish & Vespa.
    Even TVS Scooty Pep comes with telescopic front suspension, really this old scooter type front suspension on Activa looks really cheap…. :(

    looks ugly especially the front. they must have proper styling work before the launch product. ans same engine ?? why not 125cc ? how could one fly in this punny 110cc mill ??? flying will reamin a dream lol

    Honda again made us fool by launching a degraded product. Three months before they did the same by launching Trigger. Before the launch of Trigger many of the automobile sites said that honda is going to launch CB150R, then they launched another unicorn only with cosmetic modifications. This time also heards many rumours that honda will launch the Lead 125.

    There is no reason to restrict the target of ACTIVA-i to the Ladies only. The Sr. Citizens (M) would find it very cosy

    Activa I is the Aviator’s Body + Same Activa 110 cc Engine + Reduced weight of 103 Kgs+ Increased GC becoz all new activa dlx HET is found scrapping most of the speed breakers in India. Good Looking seen on road in Chennai. This will compete against the Yamaha Ray Z of Kerb weight of 103 Kgs.

    I still think the Activa before Activa i,was so much better than Activa i and it does in give the look of the awesome style of Activa I love Activa so much but a dont like activa I a bit
    and fibre break gets craks and youl need to change the entire body of it . the other activa is so great i like the activa the most in scooter but i dont like activa i
