Honda Motorcycles has pulled a surprise by unveiling the CBR150R at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The company will be launching the CBR150R in India soon and has unveiled 7 new models for India. The Honda CBR150R will be priced below Rs. 1.20 lakhs. Powered by a 149.4cc engine, the Honda CBR150R produces 18 BHP of peak power at 10500 RPM and 12.6 Nm of peak torque at 8500 RPM. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and weighs just 138 kgs. A front disc of 276mm and a rear disc brake of 220mm helping in stopping duties for the CBR150R, which uses a mono suspension at the rear. The tachometer shows a redline of 11,500 RPM, which is more than that of the Yamaha R15. We all know how revv-happy Honda engines are.
Honda is indeed pulled of a quick one and no one anticipated the Japanese automaker to launch the CBR150R so soon. There were no spy shots, nor where there any rumours of the company bringing in the CBR150R. After exiting Hero, Honda has become extremely bullish about the Indian 2-wheeler market and is ready with an onslaught of products to take number 1 position. With technology being on the side of Honda, there is little that Hero can do to outrun the Japanese automaker. Will the CBR150R make it three years in a row for Honda? (The CB Dazzler was MotorBeam bike of the year 2010, the CBR250R is the MotorBeam bike of the year 2011, so could the CBR150R take that honour this year?).
The Honda CBR150R will rival the Yamaha R15 Version 2.0, which has enjoyed monopoly till date. But its just not that CBR150R, which will the R15 will have to fight against, as the KTM duke 200 will be priced around these bikes, giving tough competition to both.

19.5 bhp? but i dont think 150cc bikes are allowed to produce more than 17bhp in india for licensing purposes…….
January 5, 2012 at 2:08 pm
@Karan: There is no such regulatory restriction. Thanks
January 5, 2012 at 2:30 pm
i am not really sure about this myself but i am pretty sure i read it somewhere…
January 5, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Karan I think the restriction is on compression ratio not on bhp. that affects bhp indirectly.

January 8, 2012 at 5:23 pm
HONDA SHOULD HAVE LAUNCHED THIS BIKE BEFORE CBR250 BUT NONETHELESS ITS GOING TO GIVE A VERY CLOSE COMPETITON TO YAMAHA R15 V2….CBR250R BEING MUCH COSTLIER THAN R15 HAS LOST ITS CUSTOMERS TO R15 BUT NOW HONDA HAS A BIKE WITH THE SAME PRICE RANGE AS R15…
January 8, 2012 at 7:08 pm
torque is less thn that of r15 and even dazzler is more..

January 9, 2012 at 12:43 pm
Its time for Yamaha to start the battle for its presence. Its Japenese arch rival doing the right launches and moved up the ladder to take the 3rd place in Indian two wheeler industry. Still Yamaha is thinking of a 250cc bike and the scooter is only in concept stage…. Go Yamaha Go!!!!!!!
January 11, 2012 at 9:33 am
It doesn’t seem to have the most needed feature for city driving-the engine kill switch (or did my bad eyes miss that???) Is honda treating this one again as a normal 150cc bike and thought of not having it(like all other hondas/hero hondas except CBR 250 R)
January 11, 2012 at 2:59 pm
Rightly pointed. I also see that this Indian version comes without key shutter and the switch gear (on both right and left) is a straight pick from Shine/Stunner. When R15 comes with engine kill switch, CBR has lost its differentiator by dropping the key shutter and the swicth. They would have been more value for money.
January 11, 2012 at 4:58 pm
Anyway it would be foolish if they do away with the switch gears just for making it cheaper(less expensive) especially when it is going to be placed in the premium segment. Honda should understand that people are watching more bikes and people expect some basic features in a premium bike.Competition is going to be tighter with the launch of KTM duke 200 and new pulsar series.
