The Honda CBR250R has been in the news for all the good reasons but this piece of news is going to be very different. Honda created waves with the aggressive price of the CBR250R, resorting to heavy localisation to ensure the value for money tag on the quarter liter motorcycle. However many people complained about the poor quality and now a recall has been undertaken by the Japanese automaker. Our reader informs us that Honda called him up for a regular checkup and replaced a few parts including the grab rails and a few nuts and bolts of the mirrors and fairing. The engine cowl is being replaced too due to some faults with it. The parts were affected with rusting and we called up a Honda dealer to confirm the same.
Honda has not officially announced the recall yet but if your part of the first batch of CBR250R owners in India, your dealer will contact you soon for the replacement of parts soon. Furthermore the company, whose tagline is “I Enjoy The Quality” should be more stringent with their PDI specially for a motorcycle which is their flagship made in India product. With the KTM Duke 200 almost here, we feel Honda should address this issues quickly and ensure such things don’t happen in the future. The Duke 200 has already been handed to select media and from the pictures we see, quality has not been compromised even though Bajaj Auto has resorted to heavy localization of the Duke.

Honda is no more obsessed with quality, now its only upto making profit by charging more as a Premium brand. CBR250R is 20-30k overpriced taken into account the following factors :-
1)P220 dtsi-82000 CBR250R-153000 (onroad delhi) price difference- 71000
weight-150Kg weight-168 Kg weight difference-18 Kg
Top speed-144 Top speed-147 speed difference-3 kmph
2)P220 dtsi lacks mono suspension(but it has 2 air filled shocks at rear, removing one means less cost), extra 30cc, extra 5 BHP,extra 3 Kmph, half fairing, extra 20 section wider tyre , watercooling ( but it has oil cooling), fuel injection (butP220 DTS-Fi had it), engine refinement(but the CBR engine is also not that refined like Unicorn), in comparison of CBR250R.
3)CBR250R lacks awesome projector headlight,LED tail lights, night glowing switchgear,1 extra spark plug, Exhaus-tec chamber,Big screen speedometer(CBR has very small, with limited functions) in comparison of P220 DTS-i.
with fresh complaints coming every other day of poor quality parts used in CBR250R ( nuts & bolts-chasis-chain rusting, poor paint quality, harsh engine, bent alloy wheels, does it still justify the extra 71000 Rupees & extra 18 Kgs weight?Where is the quality?
If P220 comes with mono suspension, full fairing, proper 250cc engine, watercooled or oil cooled doesn’t matter(it should cool the engine throughout the day), fuel-injection,improved handling, tyres should be extra grippy like R15, no matter 120 or 140 section, smooth engine, priced around 1 lakh, i dont see any reason not to buy it & you will see it beating Ninja leave alone the CBR250r.

I was going through a tough day, but your post put a smile on my face. Thanks!!
Hey my cbr250r was delivered on august 11th…do i belong to the first batch of cbr250r owners????pls answer me….
Sughosh, no your bike does not come in first batch but you need to check the manufacturing date to identify if there is some defect with your bike.
And my drive chain in rusting….
@NINU pulsar 220 doesn’t gets the quality which honda gives to cbr250r and if Honda does this mistake of giving a bad quality then it recalls the vehicle for part replacement but Bajaj overlooks it
It’s manufacture date’s 7/2011…..
Sughost, please contact your dealer.
And i feel a bit inferior on the quality of the plastics and my drive chain in rusting so much….
hey ninu
pulsar 220 does 132 kph true speed max it might 135 whereas cbr does 155 + … true speed …so there is difference in speed… acceleration 0 – 100 220 10 secs cbr 8 secs that 2 secs matter to zip off…….quality wise pulsar is no good either having used one myself…..i prefer cbr any day before 220 its much better…..that 71000 is justified……my opinion
What shall i ask the dealer??
Sughosh, ask the dealer to change the defective parts under warranty.
K thank u so much..
Sughosh, your most welcome ;-)
Hai ninu what are you talking about ? I’m from Indonesia, i have CBR 250R And top speed i hit 165 kmh, because limiter on rpm 10.500 and true speed on Gps 151,35 kmh. Don’t you compare cbr and pulsar 220, i had ever beat ninja 250R with my cbr 250R with drag race 200m. So do you think cbr poor ?
Dear Dandy i have provided the true speeds which are tested in average conditions, wind resistance plays a vital role in increasing or decreasing your top speed.Yes you can beat a Ninja in drag because of single cylinder torque engine in CBR, but i think drag races are of 400meters and at that distance Ninja will beat CBR. Dear, 7 extra horses matters a lot. and on open roads like highways its a totally different story. Then there is no match for Ninja.
The justification of premium price is only in case of Yamaha R15, the fit and finish of bike, quality of internals as well as externals, weight wise, Handling and the delta box frame all justifies its premium price. Not a single person will complain of quality in R15, where as every single person complains about it in CBR. Many person also confirmed that lookswise R15 is a betterlooker and looks like it is an expensive bike, which is not in case of CBR250R.
Ya your right. But I think no Problem, because CBR just one cylinder while ninja 2 cylinder, ninja get higher Rpm and higher peak power. But cbr is cheaper, and it has better mileage. And still can beat ninja until 200m, easy to ride, and fun torque sensation. I think don’t worry or fear if you take CBR.
Why do people compare on speeds…if someone buys the Ninja 650 at 5 lacs, should he expect it to hit 700 kph??? Come on!
uh.. Ninu
you are giving a comparison of a bajaj pulsar 220.. With a HONDA CBR250R!!! That is one thing which a bike enthusiast will never do first of all. Now that you have done it… Yes agreed about the rusting of the nuts and drying up of the chain. But that does not define the quality a HONDA gives.
Let me not talk about the specs but the tech..
The single cylinder engine, is the most refined one in its class and beats any below.
The C-ABS!!!!!!!! Now that is one thing that makes this bike apart from the rest. I wudnt mind shelling out even 80000 for this technology…! The confidence one gets because of this is unmatched while riding any other bike for that matter. Makes it more commendable.
My CBR 250r with 4000 Kms on the clock and purchased at the end of May 2011, refused to start. It wouldn’t even start on a steep downhill slope in third gear. Honda dealer, Sornam Motors, Dindigul, collected the bike on a Mahindra pickup van. A week later a mechanic rode the bike up to Kodaikanal yesterday and presented me with a bill of Rs. 1971/- (one thousand nine hundred and seventy-one only). The breakdown of the bill is as follows:
1. Shim, Tappet 2.075 14936 – KT7 013 224.76
2. Mirror Assy. L Bac 88120 – KYJ – 710 404.23
3. Clip, snap fit (PO) 90666 – SDA – A01 3.46
4. Shim, Tappet 1.85 14927 – KT7 – 013 170.69
5. Shim, Tappet 1.875 14928 – KT7 – 013 224.76
6. Shim, Tappet 2.05 14935 – KT7 – 013 170.69
7. Labour charges 772.00
I appreciate the change of rusted bolts and nuts free of cost but…
My questions are:
a) The mirror was not broken when the bike was loaded into the van.
b) Why do shims have to be changed on a bike just seven months old with 4000 Kms on the clock, unless they were defective in the first place?
I strongly feel that Honda needs to reimburse the dealer for this amount and compensate the owner (in this case – me) for un-nessary downtime, mental agony and assume the honourable role that Honda has come to be associated with.
