Honda To Launch Next Generation Scooters In 2014

Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India is undoubtedly the leader in the scooter segment in India. The company enjoys a 45% market share in the scooter segment with its Activa, Dio and Aviator scooters. However the Japanese automaker is not resting on its laurels and plans to bring in the next generation of the above mentioned scooters in 2014. The most important changes to the Activa, Dio and Aviator would be the change in platform, with an all new platform being used to improve riding dynamics dramatically.

Honda is also expected to give these scooters an updated powerplant, which will have more power and lower fuel consumption. Additionally features will be added to ensure that the Honda scooters continue to remain market leaders amidst intense competition from rivals like Hero, TVS and Yamaha. This move to update these scooters is part of Honda’s plan to maintain its leadership in the automatic scooter segment. Yamaha is set to bring in the Ray automatic scooter which could be a big challenger to Honda’s scooter offerings.

Honda is also developing a 125cc scooter (code-named K24A) which is based on the Aviator platform. This new scooter is set to hit the markets in 2013 and will rival the Suzuki Access, Piaggio Vespa and Mahindra Rodeo. Honda currently does not offer any 125cc scooter and people looking for a more powerful alternative have no option but to opt for a competitor product. This 125cc scooter is all set to resolve this issue and will produce class leading power and torque figures. Honda used to sell the Eterno 150cc scooter earlier, which was geared but did not work well in the Indian market and had to be discontinued.

Honda has pretty good line-up of scooters internationally. I would love to see cub 50cc, yes, it’s so cute and would be great for regular city runs. Another interesting model is PCX 150cc, i’m sure they will seal their lead permanently if they bring in those scooters.
