Curiosity killed the cat or so they say and thats quite similar with the Hero Honda Karizma. But alas Hero Honda has finally woken up and launched the much awaited FI version of the popular tourer. On paper everything looks quite pointless so we will reserve our comments till we get our hands on the machine. The new Karizma ZMR FI is priced at Rs. 91,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) which is not cheap by any means. The bike retains the same 223cc engine but gets fuel injection which increases the power by .6 BHP to 17.6 BHP @ 7000 RPM. Maximum torque of 18.50NM is .15NM over the carb version. Hero Honda claim a top speed of 135kmph 126kmph which is 1 up on the ZMA.

The new Karizma ZMR FI gets the following changes over its predecessor : -

  • Full Fairing
  • New headlamp and LED tail lamps (from the CBZ Xtreme)
  • Split clip on handle bars
  • Fairing mounted rear view mirrors
  • Split rear grab rails
  • New Colors
  • Programmable Fuel Injection Technology
  • Oil Cooler
  • Bank Angel Sensor (cuts fuel supply if the bike tips over)
  • New rear mud guard
  • Fairing mounted front indicators
  • New Body Graphics (Yawn)
  • Rear Disc Brakes
  • Gas Charged Rear Shock Absorbers

Indeed it was one of the much awaited launches but as it was perceived that ZMR would bring tough competition in its class, it is still to be seen how people will take this very mediocre looking bike at a price tag of Rs.91000/- Ex-showroom.

looks are somewhat ok,,,,,but they should consider on more power…:-)…:-)…surprisingly no words abt milege!!!!!!!

Hero Honda never suggests fuel economy figures for its premium bikes (CBZ/Karizma). They reserve it for Passion Splendour and the likes.

ZMR is a touch disappointing. Perhaps we expected more than what we got :)

On positive notes..
+ build quality is better (front mainly). Not as much as Yamaha. Definitely better than Pulsar. Front fairing fit and finish meets standards set by R15.

+ Clip-on Handle bar is superb

+ Console is classic Honda and I like it. Chrome touch of Hero Honda makes tacho appealing. only Hero Honda sticker should have been a bit smaller or just the logo would be great.

+ air vents on front (under headlamp) looks great (esp. on white bike)

+ other positives are already covered by motor beam (pgmfi, mirrors, etc. etc..)

On down side..

- power.. torque boring!
- Tyre (this zapper… sucks!)
- too much sticker to my taste!
- not much in offer for ppl like me who own a Karizma

Bikes like R15, FZ/Fazer, RTR, and even P220 to certain extent feels too small from guys like me who are 6Ft+. I was hoping new Karizma would be a lot better than this.
Looks like I will have to get my current bike tweaked, since from the pictures here, it doesnt seem viable to swap it for ZMR. And Ninja is idealistically beyond my pocket for daily needs. Touring has taken a back seat in my life now!

when Karizma was first launched, it was miles ahead of the competition…But as years passed, there seems to be a reversal of rankings…this model looks dated and the specs are nothing to get excited about…HH has to realize that this segment buyers are only crazy about top speed, techy accessories and “killer” looks…a simple stickering job and joining the famous aspects of the entire product line wont do any good…And add to that a price tag of Lac wont bring buyers…Yamaha is expected to launch Fazer 250 which by the way Yamaha is bringing new bikes to India should be really exciting…Suddenly Karizma has become the brand “Zen” of Maruti Suzuki…You cant live upto the reputation…

Why do you people keep criticizing???? Look at the +ve side, be optimistic.
Do you know what the problem is with you guys???????Expectation. Stop it and enjoy life without getting dissatisfied. For this bike, with great confidence, I can say that it is going to beat the rest. By the way, don’t forget that he is the big daddy, who started it all. All others are mere toddlers infront of him. They are here bcozz this bike cleared the path for them, years ago. Stop criticizing, accept it and Hero Honda will surely come up with better bikes, bikes accepted by one and all.till nxt bike, stop expecting, start riding

hahahaha… pity those who were waiting for this crap, that too raving about it.. if this is what is an upgrade after six years.. better not have it.. wake up Hero Honda.

sameer September 20, 2009 at 12:29 pm

This is totally crap. HH have simply copied things from here and there and this is their flagship. At 91,000 only a fool would want to buy this bike. I dont see a single reason why this bike justifies this price. HH please do something original…

ColdGold September 20, 2009 at 12:59 pm

I guess HH didn’t want to tamper with their proven engine. That’s why they must have just added the extra fratures like FI, rear disc, full fairing etc. Since the competition is better today, we expected more from HH. Atleast a 300 cc engine would have justified the cost and new launch…a little disappointing….

yamaha wakes,Hero honda sleeps its time for wake up herohonda.

Reply

giro September 21, 2009 at 12:52 am

guys in terms of power dont look at bhp, instead have a look at its torque which is increased to its expectations, i bet its gonna beat all the machine with its raw pickup and top speed is pretty descent given to indian road conditions.

The Ugly/Funny/Idiotic/Shitty/Worthless New Karizma “ZMR FI”…

Is it a joke?????????????? The Pulsar 220 is a billion miles ahead of this piece of crap!

Hey Hero Honda…. good morning!!!

Avi September 21, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Phrewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Karizma never excited me. Bajaj is soon going to launch Ninja, which comes with 250cc engine. 30ps makes that bike best in the class. Poor HH people wud never wake up and live up to the expectations abt style and power. I dont think the R&D people of HH people deserves a pat on the back….but only some kicks on the butts.

not such a nice model to launch in the name of karizma.expected a lot.head lamp is too small for a model like that.side dome is not that attractive.back side view is also not nice

how fast are they plannin to go with 156kg and just 17.06bhp…0.6increase in power after 3years of wait??!?!
what HH thinks ppl wud just buy this bike for around a lac of Rs just on their basis of smoothness or reliability??!!
even the RTR180 can match the performance figures…

also the fi is a huge advantage .. the bike will hav very less maintainance n wil b much more reliable wen compared to other carborated bikes…

overall its a complete VFM package …
