For the first time in more than 25 years, Japans Kawasaki Heavy Industries will introduce a high-powered motorcycle in the Indian market with the help of its Indian partner and long-time collaborator, Bajaj Auto. Bajaj and Kawasaki had developed various motorcycles during their alliance of almost two decades. However, Kawasaki never launched a product under its own brand name without sharing it with Bajaj.

The alliance will see the launch of the Kawasaki Ninja 250R which will be made at Bajaj’s Chakan facility near Pune. This will help the company save on the high duties levied on imported bikes. The 250cc, 30 bhp bike will be imported as completely knocked down kits from Kawasaki’s Thailand plant. The company will also look to launch other high-performance bikes, including the Sports Roadster, Ninja ZX-6R, Z1000 and Vulcan Cruiser.

Marketing and distribution will be the sole responsibility of Bajaj Auto. Kawasaki will provide the necessary training and parts back-up. Pricing details will be revealed at the time of launch. These bikes will be sold at Bajaj’s Probiking showrooms, a chain of retail stores set up for high-end bikes. They may be later made available at Bajaj’s other dealerships. In return, Bajaj will continue to get help in technology and design development from Kawasaki for its future products. Kawasaki will tap Bajaj’s supplier base to source components to meet the requirement of its overseas operations.

I asked one of the senior guy at Bajaj, he said ninja will take 3-4 months more, i.e. oct-nov this year. I was very eager to buy it but Bajaj sucks abt their promises as usual…

Hey Fas any update about NINJA, I will definately try to get this if it is 1.5 or max 1.8 lac on road.

I really hate bajaj bcos of such fake promises, they said Ninja will be launched in may much before and showed us a dream. And now they have not even lauched 220 with black theme.

Suyesh, I doubt the bike will cost around 1.8 lakhs. I think 2 lakhs will be more like it, but fingers crossed. The bike was supposed to be launched by now, but Bajaj (you know them for not keeping their promises) will launch it by the end of this year.

No Suyesh im talking abt my kawasaki ninja 250r its average is around 60 km/h. Are you planning to go with this bike or some other imported bikes. Plz advice me that after 1 week im going to buy ducati 150 is it good option for me?

Suyesh June 9, 2009 at 9:51 am

Oh you must be talking abt 60 miles per gallon right. Becos ninja cannot give you average of 60 km per litre of petrol. No idea abt ducati. y dont u try yamaha? I am waiting for ninja but mean while I will try my hands on pulsar 220 or 250..

Hey fas I need ur suggestion. As u know initially I was waiting for Ninja, But since it is getting delayed, meanwhile I want to go for FZ-S. I will keep this bike till feb or march 2010, till then Ninja would have definitely launched. My concern is , Will I get good resale value for my 7-8 months old FZ-S, What figure can I expect as a resale for my 77,500(mumbai) investment.

Please do advice me. Thanks in advance

Suyesh, wait for the Ninja. No point in loosing money on the FZ. You will easily loose around Rs. 20,000 as the resale value of the FZ is not all that good.

:( I am tired of waiting for a good bike. Do you see any Good bike available now I mean YAMAHA FAZER, FZ-S, Karizma.

I am getting good resale value for my 5 years old Pulsar 150 in my area.therefore thinking of selling it off.

Karizma seems outdated now, and from yamaha I wont get good resale value after few months so that I can go for NINJA when it comes on road

So what do you think, If I go for some bike now which bike should I go for considering I am 6.2 feet long handsome guy ;)

Handsome Suyesh, I would suggest you get the Yamaha R15. The bike has very good resale. You can even modify it to be faster with the racing kits. IF you can wait for the Ninja nothing like it. Mostly it will be launched by end of the year.

Guys heard that bajaj is prepared to launch this baby in october. But with price tag of 2.5 lac :(

Reply

fas September 14, 2009 at 11:44 pm

Suyesh, I think the price will go up to Rs. 2.75 OTR, Mumbai.

Reply

Suyesh September 15, 2009 at 11:21 am

Oh!! in that case I will hav to think twice yaar, because spending almost 3 lacs for two wheeler doesn’t seem worth. I was thinking of getting no. as ’9′ for my baby ninja by paying around 15-20K more to RTO so that my ninja will rock on the streets.

But things dont turn as we want them. Lets see…..

Suyesh, we will have to wait and watch as Bajaj might just surprise us.
