KTM RC 125, RC 200, RC 390 Officially Unveiled


2014 KTM RC Series

Nothing really new as everything was out much before but this time around KTM has officially unveiled the RC 125, RC 200 and RC 390 at the ongoing EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. The RC series of bikes are nothing but the Duke series underneath, using the same engines, frame, tyres, brakes, etc. Earlier studio shots were out and now KTM has released action shots of these full faired machines. KTM says these three bikes benefit from the company’s track racing experience. Europe’s popular motorcycle maker says the RC bikes seem to have escaped straight from the MotoGP pit lane and these machines are taking GP fascination to the streets.

The KTM RC 125, RC 200 and RC 390 share parts just like the Duke 125, Duke 200 and Duke 390 do. Thus all bikes look the same and the RC 125 and RC 200 look identical with black paint finishing while the RC 390 gets while colour. The front gets twin round headlights which are quite similar to what the upcoming Pulsar 375 will sport. While the rear gets an RC8 inspired tail, one might find the tail light to appear similar to the Pulsar’s which is just pure coincidence. The side gets the well designed fairing which gives these motorcycles the big bike look!

Other changes to the RC series of bikes include a smaller fuel tank (reduced by 1-litre), front windshield, new seats, clip-on handle bars, reduced front suspension travel by 25 mm, different geometry of the trellis frame, shorter wheelbase, steeper steering head, less trail and higher top speed (by around 10 km/hr). The RC 125 produces 15 HP of power from its 125cc engine, the RC 200 produces 26 HP of power from its 200cc engine while the RC 390 produces 44 PS of power from its 373cc engine. In our latest poll, people preferred the RC over the Duke and thus KTM can expect heavy demand for their full faired offerings when they are launched in our country next year. The RC version will be priced at a premium of Rs. 40,000/- over the regular Duke model. Neither the Duke 125, nor the RC 125 will be offered in India although all the six bikes are produced locally.

    while the launch of RC version is good news for many, a 40k premium for the same cant be justified. looking at the Bajaj’s aggressiveeeeeee pricing, it will be/ should be charged a premium of not more than 25k.

      well Sudhi you should understand that the bike has not gone through just a small transformation but a big one, though the engine configuration has not changed one should consider the extended trellis frame tapered tail lamps and aero-dynamic fairing keep in mind that the center of gravity and the weight are also to be considered. A lot of research goes into this i can clearly see the amount of time and effort put behind it. But if you are getting it for a price difference of 25K we are lucky but if we are getting it for 40K i would still say it is justifiable but knowing bajaj who knows they might surprise us yet again :).

      Sudhi, RC will not only get a full fairing but clip-on handle bars, a new tail section, new seats, daytime running lights, etc. All this entails the premium.

    KTM RC390,200 & 125 are good steps taken by KTM. But it is not the only company made their way in india. Triumph is also forseeing their low end models to manufacture by localisation (Daytona 250 & Street triple 250). So triumph will stand as an opposite nose to KTM. So beware KTM.

      It’s going to be Street single 250! not triple! anyways, KTM with solid backing of Bajaj was able to come up with a dealership network, that is nearly impossible for Triumph for atleast couple of years. So, Triumph can’t be taken as serious competition for KTM for atleast 2 years from the launch of their first bike. Besides, Bajaj has used the cost advantage very cleverly in India even though the products are priced at a premium in European markets. This is going to be another sticky point for Triumph, because they simply don’t have the scale of Bajaj. For example Duke 200 shares components with P200NS, which gives outstanding economy of scale to KTM/Bajaj. To put it another way, it’s really hard for Triumph to justify any premium they demand over KTM (pricing wise).

    Can anyone tell me 100% surely, when the ktm RC 200 will launch in india? And what’s going to be the price? Under 1.7 lakhs?

      @Ricky i guess as the article mentions it will be 1.4+40K which will be around 1.8L for the RC200 if the info is accurate from the article which inturn will be close to the price of naked KTM 390.

    Any word on ABS with RC200 for Indian market? When RC200 is expected to be launched in Indian market next year? I hope RC200 comes with ABS (optional) and there should be an introductory price for the bike as KTM did with Duke when it was launched in 2012.

      Jabbar, ABS unlikely as they want to maintain price gap with Duke 390. Introductory pricing should be offered.

    Indian buyers prefer RC200 more over RC390 in Sales figure.. Price too hike…

      @Baljinder- technically the price gap between the RC200 to RC390 whould be similar to the difference between the naked versions of 200 and the 390. So people who go for regular touring will be better of with the RC390. But as you say RC200 will be sold more over the 390 not only because of the price point but also for little touring and mostly urban usage.

    Earlier I was considering buying Duke 390, but now I think I should wait for the RC 390. Well according to u price is increased around 40000 rs. So that means The rc 390 could cost around 240000 on road.
    When can we expect it to launch in india??

      Surya, price of Duke 390 will increase and become Rs. 2.3 lakhs soon. So on that you can add 40k for the RC390 OTR price.

    The Rc390 looks sexy, but difficult to distinguish from others. Family members, with same looks! But the product will be quite rewarding for the real enthusiast- fast, fun, agile, brakes and handles superbly, this is what i really want. And the power parts if available in most dealers, when it will be launched, will be awesome. There will be some shortcomings, but with every ride, all of them will disappear. Cheers for KTM!!

    Will Rc390 comes with Akrapovic Exhaust? or will have to pay extra money for that Exhaust?

      Arun, it won’t come with an Akrapovic exhaust. That will come for an additional Rs. 30,000/- (est.).

    @Thnx a lot Faisal vai- as u said RC200 will going to be launched by march,2013 & the price will be around 1.75 lakh in india ! But i think there will be a issue of over pricing,so they might hike the price a bit more & the price might cross over 1.9 lakh ! As a result, it will be out of reach for me & many guys ! If they launch the bike with a on-road price of 1.75 lakh, it would be great !
    Cbr 250 r also done a big hike of pricing almost 20-30k since they launch !
    If RC 200 got only ABS Version, then it would be another heart breaking story for me, coz the it will cost another 20k more!

    why manufacturer’s dont launch 125 cc bikes in india????…it will be great combination of power,style,handling and very important fuel economy……many riders hardly go for touring n on racetrack still they buy 250cc and above bikes…..I found 125cc bike with tuned engine for peppy ride n great economy ideal choice for daily city rides.
