Triumph To Launch 250cc Motorcycle In India In 2014

Triumph 250cc Motorcycle India

Triumph is the largest motorcycle manufacturer from UK, founded in 1984. The brand is all set to hit the Indian shores and looks promising to create a buzz in the premium motorcycle segment. The company is ready to set up its assembly plant in Narsapur, near Bangalore and is also likely to produce motorcycles from the plant, starting from 2014. The factory will assemble the motorcycles coming down from the CKD route like the Bonneville, Street Triple 675 and the Speed Triple as well as produce a two-cylinder 250cc motorcycle.

According to Rudhy Siswanto, the President Director of PT Global Motorcycle Trading (GMT), the sole sub-distributor of Triumph in Indonesia, the 250cc Triumph motorcycle will feature a liquid-cooled, two-cylinder engine providing strong performance. The 250cc Triumph is likely to boast a streetfighter styling like the KTM Duke 200. The motorcycle will be offered in the Indian and the Indonesian markets initially. The 250cc Triumph will have two strong rivals in India, the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and the Honda CBR250R.

The pricing for the Indonesian market is expected around Rs. 4 lakhs, as the motorcycle will be exported through CKD or CBU routes. Estimated price for the locally produced 250cc Triumph motorcycle on Indian roads should be around Rs. 2 lakhs, which is quite aggressive considering its a Triumph product with a twin-cylinder engine. We can expect Triumph’s line-up to grow after entering the Indian shores. After all, India is the world’s second largest hub for 2-wheelers.
