Around a decade back when the roads were ruled by Bajaj scooters there was also one more scooter which managed to break in and rock the scene, that scooter is the all time favourite Vespa. Vespa was first launched in India back in the 50’s by the Firodias. Good news is that Vespa is coming home after a good old decade. Piaggio will launch a 125cc gearless Vespa scooter as their first product. With an investment of 30 crore in Baramati Maharashtra, Piaggio (the parent company) looks all geared up to penetrate into the market. The plant is expected to produce 150,000 units which will reach three lakhs by mid 2013. Piaggio may also launch a motorcycle, their market research is still going on. Apart from two wheelers Piaggio is also working on a 200cc petrol engine for three wheelers.

with auto transmission n retro looks…i really hope vespa will b a hit again if priced competitivly
Hritik, but Vespa dealer network wafer thin, which can be a problem.
Vespa had a problem of superbly bad balance and most of the 2 wheeler accidents had been happening in Vespa. I am sure this would not be a success in India. Also dealership problem which fas mentioned. And the brand image is dated too.
Abhisek, Scooters are gone. Yes Vespa’s are not that safe as say modern scooters but they are very desirable.
Good to here, we will have yet another contender in the gear less scooter segment.

I am interested to know about the Vespa Motorcycles.Do they have an international range? I think they will do the R&D Locally to achieve this.
What will the engine capacity be, will it be 150/200 cc or 100 cc commuters bikes.
Hope they don’t repeat the dated design of the Adreno/Freedom/Energy FX.
James, Vespa motorcycles will be made. Because the motorcycles from Piaggio are Aprilla superbikes.
