2011 Yamaha R15 Upgrade photo

Our April fools joke this year about Yamaha launching the R125 made alot of readers excited and disappointed too. However, the spy pictures are a sure shot confirmation of the R125s Indian arrival soon. The bike was spied by Vaibhav Saigal of xbhp and it is surely a Yamaha R125 as the alloys, rear and tail are exactly of the R125. Going by pricing of European bikes in India, we expect the R125 to be priced between the Fazer and R15. Read the complete specifications and features of the India bound Yamaha R125 here.

Edit - After much investigation, there is still doubt whether this is the Yamaha R125 and could be the upgraded Yamaha R15. However there is no confirmation on the same and we will have to wait for concrete information before passing this off as either the R125 or 2011 R15.

Edit 18/12/2010 - The bike was spied again by Vaibhav and he has managed to get more shots this time. The upgraded R15 or new R125 was accompanied by a Fazer and was doing speeds in excess of 110kmph.

the exhaust looks totally different from the production model which has a short one

Avinash December 12, 2010 at 11:02 am

maybe its jus the R15 but with upgrades??

Reply

Harsha December 12, 2010 at 2:56 pm

i certainly dont think so. but i dont get the whole point of getting the R125 into the indian market when the R15 is already out, coz the R125 looks better in every aspect when compared to its elder brother R15 leaving the power figures apart. the R125 is the next best thing to the R6. it just looks like a superbike in every aspect!!!

Guys please look at the slideshow and see how both the bikes are exactly the same.

think r15 is the king

Reply

Harsha December 13, 2010 at 12:59 am

yup. they certainly look very similar. i’ve compared both the pics side by side. dont you guys think the sales for R15 will drop drastically if the R125 came into indian production because of its drop dead gorgeous looks?

@Fas, If you look closely near the Gearbox are you will notice that the panels are same as R15 than R125. Its most probably a mod job

Reply

fas December 13, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Shahnawaz, well possibilities are that the company will share the panels to reduce costs. Tell me why would Yamaha use R125 wheels and other cues from the R125 on the R15? Any which way, only time will tell what is Yamaha upto.

Man…. This is never an R125 …. This may well be an 2011 R15….
Look at the disc,,, the muffler,,,the engine kit….All have resemblance to r15…. and not R125…. Only the tail and alloys are changed…. The front disc is on the wrong side…

Reply

fas December 13, 2010 at 7:35 pm

Obviously Yamaha will modify the car as per Indian requirements.

Reply

Ivin December 13, 2010 at 7:31 pm

One more thing…. The height difference between fuel tank and font vicor…. Note that…. This is damn not an r125…… I can bet you….. (May be the Indian R125)

Ivin December 13, 2010 at 7:37 pm

he he …. maybe…..

Reply

Harsha December 13, 2010 at 7:59 pm

i guess getting out a new avatar of the R15 is a better idea than getting the R125 which will only make things worse between the 2 of them. yup the disc is on the wrong side. the exhaust seems to be of R15′s couldnt figure out the engine manifold though

Shahnawaz Karim December 13, 2010 at 10:26 pm

@faisal, they are using the R125 alloys as the current alloy wheels do not allow low profile tyre fitments. Also if you notice carefully, R125 had Bigger Front Disc brakes that too on the left hand side of the when, while this has on the other side. And if they are homologating with Indian standards/rate consideration, then they might as well can change the name of this bike.

BTW Yamaha R15 is the same bike as Yamaha Vixion in Indonesia just the R1 Deltabox II front cowl is added to it and the rear disc brakes.

Y cant this bike be a bigger cc bike??

fas December 13, 2010 at 11:55 pm

Shahnawaz, you never know it could be a 250cc machine too. All depends on Yamaha but seeing Honda enter the 250cc space, I am sure Yamaha won’t want to be left behind.

Manish, either we can believe him but most company people always say we don’t have plans to launch, etc because other wise no one will buy their current vehicles, in anticipation of the upcoming vehicle.

Guys, this not R-125, it is the new avatar of R-15. Check out the side cowling-, It is same as the current R-15.
India Yamaha is introducing this to the tackle the upcoming Honda CBR- 150.

Yamaha is adding muscle to their premium segment as there is good response for its premium segment vehicles, so there might be a launch of R125 in the future and there is no competitor in the market if it launches the 125 cc bike except from Honda which is a arch rival for Yamaha world wide

Hey guys i got a news from a Yamaha engineer that Yamaha going to launch a upgrade version of R15 its a 180CC next year may be this bike is that

dpun January 9, 2011 at 4:52 pm

guys…..if R125 makes into indian market….either it may not survive..or it will kill its elder R15…
R125 has great looks …looks far better than R15, moreover its physivcally bigger than R15…its minus is its mileage range…which i found out in few sites as 15 to 20 kmpl….and it price is as heavy as 90k….anywaz untill launch of this bike the two important facts about the bike will not b confirmd….if incase these both aspects comes out better it may over take R15! else R15 will stay on top as ever

Guys can anyone tell me the exact launch of this beast. waiting eagerly for the past few months. I have already booked the old r15 but came to know that yamaha is launching the newer version of r15 hence asked the yamaha guys to notify me once they get the new model. Dealers are saying that it will be launching somewhere by the end of march but no official confirmation. So can any of u guys know when its gonna launch :(

This is definitely not R125 coz R125 has a more aerodynamic face and the fuel tank is in a much higher position making it look more bulky. The spy pics show only the tail and tyres are similar to that of R125 and the cowling is also neither that of R15 nor of R125. Could most probably be a new R15 coming. Nice upgrade though. Will be more sporty if the face is more pointy and low and the fuel tank a bit higher. Thank You.

This one is the modified r15 and not the r125….and this one is much better than old one…with bettet rear looks..hoping that this bike would have bigger tires as of the r125…

Well i dont think it is R125.. its just newer version of R15 as mostly all sites are claiming it to be R15 2011 model indiancarsbikes, motoroids etc.. well I think company has made R15 a lookalike of R125 according to demands of R125 in India, maybe thats why it looks like R125 but few parts in it points towards newer R15 – the fairing is not covering whole engine(small round part of engine is visible) just like old R15 http://www.marketpriceindia.in/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Yamaha-YZF-R15-India.jpg watch for the silver part of engine *SORRY I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS CALLED* & watch for R125 http://www.motorcyclists-online.com/moto-essais-articles/images/illus/YamahaYZF-R1252008Rev_03.jpg
+ outer fuel tank is also bit small just like old R15 & sitting area is more than R125 (I mean R125 has small seats while this bike is having ample of space)
