The much awaited Renault-Nissan-Bajaj alliance seems to have tanked as the companies have failed to reach an agreement on the ULC car project. Over three years ago, Renault-Nissan had shown interest in Bajaj’s ultra low cost car project and had given its word to buy it from Bajaj, if they liked the production version. However after the RE60 was unveiled last month and the people from Renault-Nissan saw it, they have not given any response to Bajaj Auto. Naturally the French automaker is disappointed that the Bajaj RE60 did not match up to their expectation of a low cost car. Meanwhile, the Tata Nano can rejoice.
The Bajaj RE60 had created a quite a buzz even before the expo began. The small car from the Bajaj stable has been at the centre of the discussion in the sub-small car category after Nano was everyone’s darling at the last auto expo. But all that speculation was put to rest when Bajaj launched the RE60. They still ain’t calling it a ‘car’ but has categorically said it’s a commercial vehicle and an upgrade from the rickshaw. Tata can heave a sigh of relief. Powered by a 200cc DTSi engine, borrowed from Pulsar, mileage has been quoted at 35kmpl. And for those who’s still wondering what does RE60 stands for; RE is Rear Engined and 60 is the emission figure of the vehicle (60g per km of CO2).

There was never a need for TATA motors to heave a sign of relief!! BAJAJ can never match NANO in any aspect.
@ sushrut …. u can never come out of indian mind set. how can u compare a NANO with Bajaj RE. both r of different segment. Bajaj RE is a Quadcycle segment vehicle, which doesn’t exists in INDIA. so Indian people don’t know about quadcycles which already exists in europe & japan.
why don’t you compare a Mini Cooper with NANO. its 1000 times better than NANO.
u tried to compare a advanced rickshaw with a cheap car.
Bajaj creates its own segments.Like Pulsar created the sports bike segments, KTM created the offroader street segment & Pulsar 200NS created the street bike segments.
anyway Renault & Nissan were not included during R&D & development phase of this vehicle so the sole owners r bajaj. so Renault & nissan don’t have any rights to take interest or not. every decision will be of bajaj.
Aryan, yes that is right but Renault Nissan were involved too.
This quad vehicles will be sold in Srilanka where people deserves better than a auto rickshaw to use as private vehicle.
I agree Renault would be disappointed becz what they displayed at the 2010 Expo was a car which looked promising but what came out was not a car.
On the other hand I wont blame Bajaj much since it was a real nice gesture of Mr. Rajiv Bajaj to call it a 4-wheeled autorickshaw than a car. So why r u guys comparing it with Nano. Every product has its own good points. Comparisons make them worse.
Abhisek, it was displayed at the 2008 Auto Expo.
wtf a pulsar 200 cc engine for a car……….
i think we can soon expect “re60 stuntmania”
Manish, LOL at RE60 Stunt Mania.
@ manishpk2007……. WTF ur mind is ??? how can a bike engine be fitted in a car . its a fake news.
pl act with some common sense.
Aryan, yes the Pulsar engine is being used in the RE.
@Aryan
Do you even think before you speak….you worthless piece of crap
It clearly mentioned in the above post ….you Illiterate hillbilly
(Read the 6th line in second paragraph ….junk)
Manish, relax buddy, we are a community, we don’t fight ;-)
I am confidently sure that its not a pulsar engine. & renault nissan were not involved even in the R&D of single part.
Aryan, Renault Nissan were not involved in the development but they were part of the idea. The engine is a modified Pulsar engine.
@ fas ……. dude believe me. renault Nissan didn’t saw the car till its launched in Auto Expo. pulsar & RE 60 engines both r very different.
Aryan, yes they did not see the car but they were part of the talks when Bajaj showed the concept at 2008 Auto Expo.
