Team-Bhpian Jebs has snapped the upcoming mini car from Chevrolet at a service center in Chennai. The new mini car to be called Matiz seems to a total stunner. It will be the first hatchback to have a digital speedometer like the Honda Civic. However there are visible drawbacks like gaps in the bumper, rubbery looking gear knob and very silly rear door handles. Still we feel GM has an awesome car at hand which will rock the B segment when this car gets launched soon.

Looks like Suzuki = Chevrolet.
Following can be checked by Googling the web and images too…
Suzuki Forenza = Chevrolet Optra ( in India )
Suzuki Reno = Chevrolet SRV ( in India )
and now…
Suzuki Splash / Ritz ( in India ) = Chevrolet Beat ( in India )
Observations while comparing Chevrolet Beat compared to Maruti Suzuki Ritz is :
1) Same headlight ( copy & paste )
2) Grill has been changed into GM grill.
3) Side looks are same ( copy and paste ).
4) Same Rear bumper ( copy and paste ). Rear bumper in these pics are damaged at both the sides for the car shown and thus the gap between the panels.
5) In Chevrolet Beat, Rear lights are changed and placed below whereas in Suzuki Ritz they are placed above, but instead they have fixed a full spoiler kind of thing at the rear for Chevrolet Beat so that it doesn’t look like a rear chopped vertically look like in Ritz. But if the rear full spoiler is removed in Chevrolet Beat, then it will also look the same as Suzuki Ritz ( vertically chopped rear ).
6) In Chevrolet Beat’s Rear door, the handles are placed where the quarter glass is placed in Suzuki Ritz ( may be just to show that this vehicle is different from Ritz in design, but i feel doing such small cosmetic changes here and there will not change the overall design / look and feel, i would say it is still a COPY and PASTE ).
7) Interior dashboard : Chevrolet Beat dashboard is different from Suzuki Ritz. Suzuki Ritz has got a waterfall dashboard in middle where the gear lever is placed but in Chevrolet Beat it is the standard design.
Conclusion : Buying Chevrolet Beat is like buying Maruti Suzuki Ritz itself. Only difference Chevrolet can make is by pricing Beat very competetively and give a product which is a good value for money with good features, good service, affordable spares, lower maintenance and a reliable vehicle suitable for Indian road conditions – may be all this might attract some Maruti Suzuki Ritz buyers where Maruti has priced Ritz highly… don’t know for what reasons Ritz’s cost is high and no doubt Maruti is making profits even during recession by looting the customers…

R.N.Sarath Babu, very well said. You have explained it very well with alot of detail. Can’t agree more, this copy paste attitude and trying to fool the public is not gonna last long.

@sarath babu and fas …
dis is al bcz GM owns a 15% share in Suzuki …so they do share sum of their designs wid each other..
Optra and SRV are orignally the GM cars wich r sold by Suzuki in the US
wid different names bcz of their partnership

Hi Friends,
Sarath’s message is totally wrong. You ask to the guy who work in MARUTI, they know the fact. RITZ is a copy of OPEL’s AGILA. As a design engineer I know the difficult in designing of new cars. Maruti got a copy right from GM’s OPEL. Please don’t speak without knowing the history. for your kind information please see the below link.

Hello Pons,
My comment above ( my intention ) was only to compare the products i.e Chevrolet Beat and Maruti Ritz.
If you read my above comment in detail ( word by word ) you will see that the designs are either copied from one source or the other…
I am not bothered ( why should i ) about who copied from whom but i only wanted to say that the same product has been modified by bits and pieces here and there and given a different name…
whether chevrolet copied / suzuki copied / Opel copied… i am not bothered but i was only telling that their products are not their own indigenous designs but copied from one source or the other and selling the same product under different name… and at the end of the day they fool the customers…
Sorry if my above comment and this comment hurts you or someone else but it’s the truth… one needs to accept it… and as everyone knows truth is always bitter to swallow :-)
Regards,
R.N.Sarath Babu.

Chervolet Beat (here Matiz) was debuted in 2007 as a concept vehicle in New ork International show. In early 2007 Chervolet conducted a poll on their website and then they decided to go in production after receiving more than 50% vote.
(Please read following article dated 4/4/2007)

All in all, look of Beat is far better than Ritz. (my personal view and no offence)
Having said that, Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo are new in the queue.

I recently test drove the Maruti Ritz with my family and found it to be simply awesome.I really like the way the interiors has been styled. The dual tone dash board looks cool and quality is very impressive as well.
