GM India will have to update the Tavera’s engine to meet Bharat IV norms which come into effect in April next year. Thus GM is looking at planting an all-new Isuzu engine in the Chevrolet Tavera. The new engine could come from the Isuzu D-Max pick-up which is sold in the Thai markets. The 2.5 litre Common Rail Turbodiesel engine develops a maximum power of 116PS and will give the Tavera a much needed spring in its steps. But GM is concentrating on the launch of the Chevrolet Cruze and the Chevrolet Beat and thus would not be able to launch the new engine till the end of 2010. Hence the Chevrolet Tavera only be sold in non-metro towns after April next year, till the new engine is launched in the MUV.

Interesting post, Tavera sounds nice. I’ll reserve my judgement later when I saw one in the street and test drive one.
