LaFerrari Is So Expensive Even Ratan Tata Won’t Buy One!

Ferrari doesn’t make cheap cars, after all, the Italian supercar company makes one of the best looking cars with extremely good performance. But I am a little disappointed with Ferrari’s latest machine, the LaFerrari hyper car. Although the LaFerrari boasts of some mind boggling specifications, the supercar looks nothing but a 458 Italia with some changes. You really don’t get something which is thoroughly different and new on the outside, like you did with the F60, aka Ferrari Enzo. To make matters worst, Ferrari says this is the best Ferrari can get, I disagree.

Just like all special edition Ferrari’s, the LaFerrari is limited to 499 units while Ferrari has already received more than 1000 requests to buy their latest offering. Thankfully half of the intrested people won’t own the LaFerrari, which means the rare chance of seeing the modified 458 Italia on the roads is even rarer. That aside, I feel the name LaFerrari is one of the worst in Ferrari history, which consisted of Dino, GTO, GTB Fiorano, Mondial, Scaglietti, etc. In front of old Ferrari cars, the LaFerrari name seems like a joke played by the Chinese.

Then there is the issue of pricing. Naturally being a Ferrari it won’t be affordable to most but a staggering Rs. 9.29 crores (without taxes) is very hefty for a vehicle which still has a yawn inducing top speed of 350 km/hr. That isin’t any faster than a slew of supercars which cost less (in terms of 0-100 km/hr and top speed). The LaFerrari is so expensive that even Ratan Tata has jokingly said that he doesn’t have the money to buy one. Or probably he is content with his 458 Italia. As per a recent survey only 57 percent Ferrari owners are happy, so if the other 43 percent ever own a LaFerrari and want to sell it, you know 500 people (who had shown interest at the time of launch and were turned down) are ready to buy it from you.

      Aakash but in terms of 0-100 km/hr and top speed, many cars beat it.

    Firstly when I heard about the LaFerrari, I was like, did china bring up a cheaper modified Ferrari? The name itself ruined the brand image. Whereas the names like the Italia and even the VENENO feels killer and cool. It looked a bit awkward from side view. Actually the 458 looks hotter than this. But after all its a Ferrari and cannot be complained.

    ferrari is a driver driven car.Jaguar or Rangrover can easly be chauffeur driven cars for the rich.

    Thus Ratan tata prefers Jaguar over Ferrari.

    Anyways,
    1. To be clear, most of the owners are interested in uniqueness then of 0-100 or 0-300 as none would dare to drive to that limit
    2. To some it’s gorgeous, to some it’s not. It’s the matter if taste. So as Ferrari just has to sell just 499 in the world. They can keep the numbers rolling as much as they need. People will be there to buy it.
    3. Ratan Tata can probably buy the Ferrari company as a whole 4-5 times or more if he really want’s to buy lololz

    Finally, if I had money to buy hyper cars. I am sure, I would want all of them. Coz each has it’s own beauty and none can be compared to one another.

    I agree with the article that the LaFerrari is disappointing in many ways. But about the price, its along expected lines. Ferraris have always been costly. At this range of cars, you pay more for the brand and the logo that for the car itself. And the Ferrari brand is worth the most, so its cars cost the most.

    Also lets not forget, you cant actually buy a LaFerrari even if you turned up with bags of cash at the Ferrari gates in Maranello. For all the “decade edition” cars, ie the F50, Enzo and now the LaFerrari, Ferrari have always chosen their 499 buyers, rather than the buyers choosing them. Thus the pricing doesnt really work like with other cars. Though I am sure, if Ratan Tata wanted a LaFerrari, he could have called up Mr de Montezemolo and he would have been put on the list.

    Whether Mr. Tata has the money or not, I am not sure. But Fiat would have provided one at a lower price if Mr. Tata wanted. His present 2 Ferrari, the California and the 458 were most probably gifts for his long service as the lone non-European independent director on the Board of Directors of FIAT, which he resigned a year or so ago.
