An Indian consumer will not be really bothered about the star rating which an Europeon agency has given. He is simply bothered about the following parameters…
1. Price
2. KMS/Litre
3. Servicability
4. Resale Value
so we will have to see how FIAT will fare on these parameters. All those premium hatch-backs are biting the dust in India…Fabia, I20, and i bet Jazz would not be having any big takers with its 7+ Lac price tag…Hope FIAT positions this well considering that its image is not exactly the one which it aspires to have…

AKRA is bang on target..he’s the commenter of the day in my opinion. Serviceability is an issue and resale value is another with Fiats.
May 13th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Yes I agree, but with service intervals of 15000 KM or 12 months and 90 bhp which will out perform Swift, I thnk this is a value for money product from Fiat.
Dynamic variant will be exccellent value for money.

Guys the EURO NCAP is a emissions test! not performance, so what are you bragging about indian consumer this and indian consumer that!
May 14th, 2009 at 11:18 am
niel….request you to do a re-check on what EURO NCAP means..It stands for Europeon New Car Assessment Programme..they basically do crash tests and certify for safety….so our point was that will an indian customer really care for an EURO safety ratings when he is driving on Indian pathetic road conditins with all those traffic-rule defying heavy vehicles….

1. Is that going to be around 6.5L ?
2. I herd that, punto will be launched by june 17… when can we get that car for test-drive, earliest ?
3. this going to be my first car.. so.. i am cautious… need your help to understand how to judge the car. my current worries about the car…
-How spacious it is ? can that be 5 sitter ( at times )?
-How much room will be there ( front and back ) if a 6-feet tall person sits.
- boot-space ?
Thanks in advance.

Sagar, the ex-showroom price is expected to be around 6.5 lakhs. Yes the Punto will be launched by 17th June. http://www.motorbeam.com/cars/fiat-grande-punto/fiat-grande-punto-launch-on-17th-june/
You should get test drive on the 17th itself, since the car is expected to reach the dealership before launch.
It can comfortable seat 5. Its same as the Linea in interior space minus the boot. Space in the car is adequate for a 6 footer. Why don’t you sit in a Linea and check it out. Once the GP is launched you can check it there too. Boot space will be adequate for a hatch.

FAS thanks for the comment!.
ex-showroom price = 6.5L .. . that looks pretty much..
How much would it be on road ?
I feel the ex-showroom price-talks are around 4 to 6L.
Fiat GP = Fiat Linea – boot_space. Does that mean, it is not as equal as Fiat GP in UK ?
June 8th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Sagar, yes thats right, and yeah another thing i forgot to mention that the GP has less powerful engines than the Linea. the GP does not have VGT (Variable Geometry Turbochrger) Fiat Linea is not sold in the UK and Fiat GP in UK has very different specs with different engine, tyres and trim on offer.
The 6.5L is for the top of the line Emotion Pack, expect that to be around 7.30 lakhs OTR.

fas :
Thanks for the quick comment!.
I guess
VGT is for Diesel. i guess. I am interested in petrol version of the car. so, I guess, the price would be down that much
Whichever car I purchase, I am planning to keep the car for long term.
I am a totally new in this and this would be my first car. What are the other things to look for while purchasing the car ? What are the key areas of comparison?
Thanks a bunch!!
June 8th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Sagar, the top end petrol will cost less than 7 lakhs on road. around 6.75 lakhs I think, maybe lesser.
Since this is your fast car, you need to look at whether your comfortable with the seating (well even if its your 2nd, 3rd or anyother car you should ensure a few points). Checkout your requirements of petrol or diesel? If your running is more than get the diesel. Either ways I would pick the diesel due to the high torque, fuel efficiency and better resale value.
When i say comfortable with the steering I mean driving the car is easy for you? Your family members find their seat comfortable. There is enough legroom for rear passengers. Be prepared though, because Tata-Fiat service is not one of the best. However Fiat cars are built tough and should last long.
June 8th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
fas:
thanks!.
I hope the car is cheaper than 6.75. *fingers crossed*
I am going to get a test-drive of Linea.
Will it make difference of getting test-drive of Diesel version and Petrol version ?
June 8th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Sagar, you will find difference in both the variants. I would advice you to take a test drive of both the variants.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
