Suzuki To Get Fiat 1.6 Multijet Engines

What do Fiat fans hate the most? The fact that Fiat themselves design, develop, manufacture fantastic Multijet engines but for others. This is set to continue not only with the 1.3 liter Multijet motor but also the 1.6 liter Multijet engine, which the Italian automaker will supply to Suzuki. In an agreement with Suzuki Motor, Fiat Powertrain Technologies has agreed to supply 1.6 liter diesel engines to the Japanese automaker. Suzuki currently receives 1.3 liter and 2.0 liter Multijet motors from Fiat but the new 1.6 liter Multijet will now soon be seen in Suzuki cars.

The 1.6 liter Multijet engine might be used in the SX4 for global markets and the license from Fiat enables Suzuki Powertrain India to manufacture the engines as per their discretion. The Indian subsidiary manufactured 2 lakh units of the 1.3 liter Multijet in 2010 for application in the Maruti Swift, Ritz and the DZire. The diesel engines were also exported to Magyar Suzuki, Hungary. Ironically though, Fiat doesn’t even sell 1/10th of cars equipped with Multijet engines in India, compared to what Maruti Suzuki does. After years of R&D, do you think its a wise decision to sell your technology to others?

Fas, what i think is, either Italians are IDIOTS or CORRUPTED otherwise what is the sense in selling your futuristic technology to the TINCAN makers who cant even make a decent diesel engine & calls themselves world no-1. FIAT are you listening.

Fas,These Japanese dont even know how to place the things in engine bay. Open the bonnet of any of Fiat car besides Suzuki Car with same Fiat engine and you will see how beautifully Italians have placed every thing in the engine bay. one thing is sure Italians loves beauty in everthing. even in cars.

Ninu, that is true. However Fiat needs to sort out its service and marketing in India.

1.6 lit will have both petrol & diesel?
We need small 1 litre diesel version of multijet that can power cars lile wagon R,much like upcoming chevy Beat diesel.

    • Prasadh S

@ Sachin : Beat diesel uses the 3 cylinder version of the 1.3L Fiat Multijet engine.

    • fas

Sachin, that engine is coming in the Beat very soon.

Sachin we are talking about 1.6 Miltijet Engine.

FIAT is nuts as they are selling 1.6 MJD also to FIAT. They are repeating the same mistake what they did with 1.3 MJD by giving that engine to MSIL. MSIL still enjoying that engine in their car.

FIAT should ask MSIL to put a logo kind of thing stating that “POWERED BY FIAT” on each of their DDiS cars.

Kedar, Fiat is selling to Fiat :p

  • Prasadh S

Both Japanese car makers (Honda and Suzuki) are not able to produce a good diesel engine..

  • Prasadh S

From another point of view, Fiat cars are not able to achieve their sales target. Because of which they are not able to get the return on investment for this multijet engines. Instead they can give licenses to other brands for which they will get a worthy amount. Anyways they will be having a copyright/patent for their engines… and everyone knows that DDIS and Tata Vista diesel are powered by Fiat’s 1.3 MJD engines…

Fiat Multijet runs under the bonnet of Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz, the Maruti Suzuki D’zire, the Maruti Suzuki SX4, the Fiat Stile MJD, the Fiat Grande Punto, the Fiat Linea, the Fiat 500, the Tata Indica Vista and last but not the least the Tata Indigo Manza.
