Ford India Unveils Small Car Figo

Ford has unveiled the much awaited small car Figo at a function in New Delhi. The car was unveiled by Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company. Ford is focusing on economies of scale and implementing One Ford strategy across markets. The Figo (code named B517) will be launched in the country in March 2010. The Figo (showcased was a Titanium variant) which is expected to compete with the Hyundai i20 and the Maruti Swift, was also showcased to its dealers in Chennai recently.

The small car will be a four-door hatchback, powered by an indigenous diesel (1.4 Duratorq) and petrol (1.2 Duratec) engine manufactured at its Chennai plant. Ford India has invested around $500 million (Rs 2,400 crore) to double the current capacity by one lakh cars and 2.5 lakh engines. Expect Ford to price the Figo very competitively and give competition a run for its money.

  11. Eric Says:

The car is great. They should have ensured power windows for the backseat too. A small glitch but definitely a glitch.

  12. Sunil ujjainwal Says:

Figo must have all power windows. at least in top model

  13. fas Says:

Sunil. no rear power windows even in the top model. Read our review to see the pictures of the same.

  14. Sidh Says:

Yes, I’m fully agree with Eric:
Ford should ensure rear power windows (as an option at least, as they are doing for alloy-wheels/front-fog-lamps).
Believe me, I’m ready to buy petrol titanium, but just waiting till next month, if they ensure for “rear power windows”. Had gone to Lathangi Ford, bangalore – and they are saying, technically it’s very much possible (and will cost hardly INR. 3000 – 4000).

FORD should seriously think on this.
Just imagine Tata-Nano is having all power windows.
Today I saw Punto 1.2 Dynamic Ad, which highlighting “ALL-POWER-WINDOWS”.

  15. fas Says:

Sidh, I spoke to the design head and MD of Ford India and they said its economically not feasible as only half the window comes down anyway.
