Yes, you got it right. The sleek, stylish vehicle above is nothing but the all new Ford Fusion that the company unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show. The US based car company has certainly made the latest iteration of the car one hell of a looker. At the front, it even slightly resembles an Aston Martin due to its matching front grille design! Combining elements of the Ford Evos concept, the new Fusion has a wide, flat stance with some strong character lines down the side that wrap around to a sleek rear end. The design can also be hinted at the evolution of the Kinetic Language of the European spec Ford Mondeo. Ford is also set to reveal the eco-friendly versions, the Hybrid and the Energi. The Fusion comes with 3 engine options; a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline-four with 170 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, four cylinder with 179 hp of power and 172 lb-ft of torque and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four with 237 hp and 250 lb-ft.

Both the engines might receive their gearboxes as 6 speed automatics while the 1.6 liter Ec0Boost might also get a 6 speed manual. The base model of the vehicle weighs just over 3000 pounds. The car will be available in 3 trims; S, SE and Titanium. Ford officials have not revealed any further details about the model, pricing or its efficiency figures. However, it is expected to achieve 26/37 miles per gallon on city/highway while the 2.0 liter engines should return about 23/33 mpg. Talking about the interiors, the Fusion receives significant changes and overall the interiors look smashing. The car also come loaded with modern technology like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System with Drowsy Driving Detection, Blind-spot Monitoring, Hill Start Assist and Active Park Assist. The pricing has not been revealed by the company but we expect it to be out by this year itself.

Apart from the conventional powertrains, Ford has also brought in 2 new ones, the Hybrid that is powered by a 2.0 liter Atkinson cycle inline 4 cylinder engine with a total power output of 185 BHP and torque of 130 lb-ft. Power flow occurs via a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Energi, on the other hand has the same powertrain but with a pulg-in hybrid system. Though much of it is unknown, the Energi is rumoured to achieve a mileage of 100 mpge (miles per gallon equivalent), 8 mpge more than the Chevrolet Volt. The Hybrid will launch with the rest of the Fusion range in the fall of 2012, while the Energi will arrive a little later.

The earlier Ford Mondeo was a great car for its time when it was here…unfortunately Ford was more interested in selling and paying attention to the Ikon owners.
