Could Ford Launch Mustang In India?

Ford Mustang Thunderbirds

The iconic American muscle car, Ford Mustang is in its fifth generation at present. It has got a few facelifts with engine upgrades and now it is expected to get a new generation avatar soon. The next generation Mustang will be available in right hand drive to serve the UK and Australian markets. Ford could also launch it in India in limited numbers for brand building. The all-new model of the Ford Mustang is being designed for global sales and is due to be unveiled at the 2014 New York Motor Show on the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. A 2014 ½ model will be sold in limited numbers.

The all-new Ford Mustang will be sculpted with sharp and futuristic design language, reflecting a sleek stance, inspired by the 1968 coupe. It will be available with three engine options internationally – 4-cylinder turbo, V6 and V8. According to reports, Ford’s global vice president of sales and marketing, Jim Farley, will announce the confirmation of next generation Mustang in Australia next month. The new Mustang will hit Australian roads in 2016 by replacing the Ford Falcon.

It has been 50 years since Ford imported a dedicated right-hand-drive Mustang to Australia. The Australian market is likely to get the V8 performance models. With Australia using right hand drive, we in India can now get the Mustang. The price of the new Mustang is expected to be close to $50,000 (Rs. 30 lakhs) and it will touch Rs. 45 lakhs in India due to the hefty CBU duties. We don’t expect many engine options and trims in the Indian market, instead the American automaker could introduce limited examples of the Mustang to enhance its presence in our country.

v6 is good option on indian roads v8 is way too much power you might end up smashing frequently, when it comes to looks bmw or audi hardly has any match mustang just blows them all. its an aggressive car ford might have to tune up for indian roads and may decrease the power. well in the end if ford could bring mustang taylor made for india price around 15-20 lakhs obviously you might not get the v6 or v8 but the looks just kills all the competition

A 2 litre Ecoboost which has 240bhp can be considered if Ford wants to price it competitively, which I guess they won’t as they bring the Mustang as a part of brand building exercise…
And only a V6 or V8 can bring that brand image. But yes, 2L EB is a good option if they wish to see some profits out of Mustang

If you go by the pricing of European companies, the CBUs cost 100 times in Rupees, compared to US dollars. So, if Mustang is going to cost 50,000 USD in US, it will cost 50,00,000 Rs in India.

I guess that will be the cost of 4 cylinder turbocharged version. It could well compete with Nissan 370z.

Rohan, easily more than Rs. 50 lakhs but they will be very limited numbers and Ford will be happy too.

I am a Mustang fan, surely wanna see it on Indian roads, fully packed muscle car is better than bored and contemporary looks of audies, merces, bmws… But we know indian roads, ford have to do some serious changes to the ground clearance of the car… Saif Ali Khan drives a yellow ford mustang v6… haha… Have an iconic feeling in this car surely attract buyers to this….

Ya surely launching this killer will make the market shake…. And if Ford managed to keep the price low and competitive as possible why not as you said if become an icon in india… But mustang is a car in america kids know the specs of the mustang and car which is not new to the world, but india is a new market for it and tough also, we rely on luxury cars not sports or coupes car if one have to spend some money or so, I am a die-hard fan of muscle cars and mustang is my favorite… My favorite mustang is BOSS 302….
