All New Honda City Coming With Diesel Engine In 2014

2014 Honda City

Honda might be late to the diesel party but the company is confident about making a definitive impact in the Indian car market. Post the launch of its first diesel car (Amaze) in India, Honda is betting big on diesel engines to boost market share. The Amaze has helped Honda hit record sales and two very promising Honda cars will hit Indian roads in 2014. One is the new Jazz which was recently unveiled while the other is the new City, which will debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in November. Honda is likely to display both these cars at the 2014 Auto Expo.

The all new Honda City will follow the design direction seen on the new Jazz although both cars might differ marginally in terms of design. The City uses the Jazz’ platform and the interiors are likely to be identical too. Our rendering of the sixth generation City shows how attractive the model is going to look. Clean flowing lines coupled with a coupe like rear is sure to please many buyers in the C-segment. The new City is likely to be positioned slightly above the current model, making breathing space for the sub 4-metre Amaze.

The City has been Honda’s most popular model in India for more than a decade. It’s just after the arrival of the Amaze that the City is no longer Honda’s top seller in the Indian market. The new City will use the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine which powers the current model while the diesel engine will come from the Amaze (1.5-litre i-DTEC produces 100 PS and 200 Nm). The new City is likely to get all the features offered on the new Jazz but which one of those will make it to India remains a mystery.

Honda also plans to bring in the Jazz based crossover and Brio based Mobilio MPV to the Indian market in the near future. All this is sure to help Honda overtake its arch Japanese rival, Toyota. The company’s current focus is on volume based products and hence there is no attention towards the Civic and Accord, Honda’s good sellers for a long time in the last decade.

I think the design is influenced from the hyundai accent

Actually Quite the opposite. The fluidic design concept of Hyundai and Wavefront design of Suzuki are ofcourse the old tested and tried Design concept from Honda and Mitsubishi.

Today we went to Honda showroom, only to found that City Corporate seems to have been discontinued and even, salesperson was not sure about the colour that we were asking. He just said, you may get it, you may not get it this year.
I am so much confused, is this the right time to buy Hionda city. 1.5 S is costing around 9.3lakh but will new honda city be in this price bracket?
We then checked Hyundai Verna and it seems to be a good option (Petrol) but have heard that its ride quality and engine is no where close to City…… I am so much confused, should i buy Verna Ex (cost 9.3) or City S (cost 9.3) or wait till next year …..Please help…
we are gona keep our car for long time…

Is Honda planning to increase the ground clearance for the Honda City ? The current limit does not suit Indian roads and often see people scared to drive on the bumpy road.

I am at the same situation where LieHonestly and Mohit are. But i can’t wait till april-14 bcz don’t know about upcoming cars and prices so always there is a hidden risk, Yeah ofcorse as far as honda is concern there will be no doubt in engine performance and design but cost will also be a major concern.

So i have booked Honda city EMT @ 8.8 lakhs (inc. all other expenses) and expected delivery in the next week.

    I am happy ..

Great hopes from this launch. Tough days are ahead for Hyundai Verna. HMIL should now work towards face-lift of Verna – Top selling mid-sized sedan in India. Although, they have tried doing some not so great changes with SX variant – Smoky alloys and illuminated power window buttons.

More than facelift, Hyundai needs to balance the dynamics of the Verna.

7th January is the launch. The car is good, if you are looking at a diesel car in that segment, go for the City.
