Hyundai will be launching the much awaited i20 in January next year. The i20 will replace the Getz but Hyundai might still decide to sell the Getz along with the i20. The i20 is a premium hatch and will be positioned against the Maruti Swift, Ford Fusion, Skoda Fabia and soon to be launched Fiat Grande Punto.
The i20 is expected to be priced between 6-6.5 lacs and will be available in petrol and diesel varaints. Hyundai just started exporting the i20 to the European markets and we expect the i20 to be as successful as the i10.

Hello,
I have recently moved from canada and having driven the Corolla Automatic, I have been struggling & debating myself over Automatic & Manual versions.
I initailly thought I will go for Honda GXI CVT, but came to know that it is obsolete now ( was costing me 8.06 L on road ) , compared it with New city ( costing 9.4 ) additional advantage of dual air bags but as my utility is not that much so I dropped the idea of city and started exploring the other options,
In automatic I could not find more options other than Hyundai or Scorpio ( 11 lac , too much ) so sticked on Hyundai,
I took the test drive of I 10 , looked great ( particualrly Asta Model ) with sun roff was costing 5.5. L , the only disadvantage was the boot space 220 Ltr,
researched a bit and found that I 20 is being lauched soon, now its already mid nov and if I buy I 10 now ( in 1.5 months time, it would be called 1 year old model ) , also although I like I 10 but not the boot space so will have to face the trouble of lack of space everyday,
I need an automatic car, do u think I have any other option in 5-6 lac range with the top model .
Why hyundai doesnt disclose the launch date of I 20, I contacted the head office & delares but they are all dumb.
Please advise ASAP.

Rohit the i20 will be launched by January. The head office and dealers never disclose the launch date nor the details of the launch so you won’t get any info from them. The i20 auto will be launched some time later, not in Jan so you will have to wait a bit if you wish to go for the i20 auto.
What i would suggest you is to wait for next year so that you get a car in the new year and thus resale value won’t be affected. You can buy this year and register the car next year and thus make your car a 2009 model.
In the automatic segment there are not many cars to choose from. Yes the i10 is a fantastic car and I would suggest you to get the automatic. The i20 automatic will cost around Rs. 7 lacs.
I would not recommend the Scorpio to you. It is very overpriced. There are no other cars in the automatic segment other then the i10. I think you should get the i10 automatic. You can read test drive review of the i10 manual here http://www.motorbeam.com/hyundai-i10-12-test-drive/

Thanks a lot for the prompt & decent reply,I like I 10 but the only thing that is disturbing me is the boot space, as I have a infant , and if I put the stroller in the boot, there is no space left after that ,
Can you find out the exact date of I 20 auto launch date so that I can make up a decision, also whats the best discount in I 10 I can get, no loyality/exchange, no govt job,
November 14, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Rohit your most welcome. The i20 auto will be launched by July 2009. Waiting that long seems difficult. I guess you should get the i10 auto. The City CVT is a fantastic car too and being a Hondad will have good resale value.
You can get a 25k discount on the i10. Sales are not doing good due to recession.

Thnaks,
Now when CVT is obsolte, do u thing I would be able to get CVT on throw away price may around 7 lacs, If yes, then do u think it would be worth talking it in a view that
1) as automatic cars are not in demand particulary for the indian market, so the resale value would be already down,
2) obselete model,. so again value down,
3)disadvantage of not having the air bags as compared to the new city with that as na standard feature.
Pls advise.

Hi Rohit,
Honda plans to sell the old City along with the new City so there shouldn’t be any issues with that. Inquire with as many Honda dealers as you can about what price they can give you the CVT for. Some dealer might be having one in their stockyard and could give you a very good deal.
Automatic cars may not be in demand but Honda cars are always in demand and command good resale value. You should go with the City CVT, its a very good car and very practical too.

i am really impressed to read the answers. I am selling my santro xing & would like to move into swift diesel. I came to know of I20 in the same segment. I want to know how do the two compare ? should i wait for I20 ? Any exact dates of launch ? please help.

Mehul the i20 is expected to launch in January. The i20 will be a better car then the Swift Diesel in terms of performance, space and comfort. If you can wait, then i would suggest waiting for the i20. The Swift and i20 are in the same segment as the i20 is the Getz replacement.

I am waiting to buy a spacious hatch back early next year that can seat 5 people comfortably and has good mileage & low on maintenance.
With a series a new models being to be launched next year like Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Suzuki Splash, and the current models Swift and i10 i am confused which one to buy. my budget is limited to max 4-4.5Lakhs. plz advice me which one to buy.
November 20, 2008 at 4:12 pm
With your budget i would suggest you get the i10. Its a very good car and if you can wait then you should wait for the i20 but it will be priced heavier. You can even check out the Getz which is very spacious.

thanks dear. i got know that hyundai is a great success with diesel engines in verna & the same is being fitted in i20, making it more affordable hatchback sedan. it is expected to deliver 24kmpl, is that true? what should be the price of 1.4 crdi i20 model….
November 20, 2008 at 5:33 pm
The i20 will come with the same diesel engine as the Verna and the Getz Diesel. It won’t give 24 kmpl but will return good fuel efficiency. You can expect 16-17 kmpl. The i20 Diesel would start from Rs. 5.8 lacs.

Hi, I am looking for a hatchback, and my budget is around 4.5 to 5 lakhs on-road. Have almost decided on the Swift Vxi. But now that the i20 launch seems near…my question is should I wait for it? When will it be launched, and will the i20 be available in that budget ?
Thanks in advance for the answer!

Tanmoy – The i20 will be priced around Rs. 6 lacs and won’t fit in your budget. I would suggest to go ahead with the Swift VXi, its a fantastic car :)

hi there iam looking for a hatchback between 3.5 to 4.5, i am really confused between A star and i10, as i live at a place whre hyundai service centre is as far as 60 km,so will there be any problem service wise? and wanna knw if anyone has a A-star, wat is itz on orad mileage…?
December 12, 2008 at 11:11 am
Vikrant the i10 is a much better car. The A-Star is best compared to the Santro. There shouldn’t be any problems servicing the i10 as Hyundai has pretty good service. A-Star mileage is said to be 19kmpl, but you should get 16kmpl in normal driving conditions.

thnx budy…
December 30, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Vikrant dont b confused. ihv driven the 1.2L kappa engine on the Asta Version of i10. Its Drive is best in class.good acceleration. great looks. good mileage. In A-star apart from very good mileage, good pricing u will get a less enthusiast’s engine, ugly looks, worse interiors, smaller rear legroom, smaller boot. u c what u want.

Got RITZ ZXi . Color: Fire Brick Red. Overall, it is an excellent car. Remains stable even at 120kmph (like any other modern hatch). Has lots of space, and 3 ppl can easily fit in the rear seat. The day i got the car and made 3 of my friends sit on the rear seat, one of my friends said,”i’ve never sat so comfortably with 2 other ppl in a small car!”. Hats off to SUZUKI on this car! It has amazing HEADROOM, and more KNEE ROOM as compared to other cars in its segment
