The new Hyundai i20′s great value prices, exceptional quality and industry-leading warranty don’t just make it attractive to new car buyers. According to industry experts they will also make it popular as a used car choice in the future and that means it holds its value.

Used car market and motor industry analysts CAP say the i20 will retain a greater percentage of its original value after three years than a plethora of highly-regarded rivals. This includes those renowned for holding their value such as the VW Polo and Toyota Yaris, as well as big players like the Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207 and even the new Ford Fiesta.

CAP figures just released show an entry-level i20 5-dr Classic will still be worth 47 percent of its list price after three years and 30,000-miles, 5% points more than the equivalent Fiesta and 12 more than a Corsa or Clio. The i20 1.4 CRDi Comfort 3-door, launched in April is expected to perform even better with 49 percent retained value over the same time and mileage.

The i20′s standard spec combines all of the things that buyers want, such as remote central locking, air conditioning, electric front windows and an iPod jack in the stereo, but none of the things they don’t, says Hyundai UK’s marketing director Andrew Cullis. Throw in fantastic looks, great quality and the five-year warranty that’s standard on all Hyundai models and you have the recipe for excellent residual values.

Indeed, the five-year unlimited mileage warranty, introduced by Hyundai in 2003, is one of the key factors behind Hyundai’s used car success. Auto Express magazine voted the company’s approved used scheme as the best in the business recently, citing the warranty as a major factor. While most of its rivals will be out of cover after three years, the i20 owner will still have two years peace-of-mind remaining. The cover is fully transferable to used car buyers too, making it a real attraction.

With naturally low running costs thanks to affordable pricing, a range of modern fuel-efficient engines capable of up to 64.2 mpg on the combined cycle and impressive levels of standard equipment, its high residual values are further proof that the new i20 is the perfect car for drivers who want to keep an eye on the pennies without cutting back on any of life’s little luxuries. The newcomer goes on sale across the UK from January, priced from only £8,195.

CAP predicted this prior to the launch of the i20′s sibling the i10 and whilst it’s still early days for second hand i10′s so far the value’s seem to be strong.

The remainder of the warranty definitely plays a role when selling on used Hyundai’s and as long as Hyundai stay clear of the fleet market, then i20 value’s should stay strong like CAP are predicting.

On saying that Hyundai do see the i20 accounting for 30% of all sales in 2009 so it’s difficult to see that happening without heavy discounting at some point, especially in a tough market on the downturn.

The i20 has already arrived in our showrooms and has received favourable comments from our customers. Here’s to the launch.

Guys about the i20 the base varient Magna is pure value for money. 4.79lacs exshowroom price with music system, adjustable seat n steering, electronically controlled rear view mirror and much space in the dash borad, power windows. Where do u get all these stuff in other cars. Its a bit more priced than Swift VXI. But only point I doubt is i20 is 70 kilos heavier than swift and with 1.2 litre which is used in i10 too. So finally its lot more heavier than i10 and the engine is the same. So what happens to the mileage and pickup of i20. I really doubt the mileage will be a drawback in i20. Rest all is good. Magna is priced very attractively. And resale of hyundai is always less than marutis. This is also to be considered.

Thanks for your inputs Raghav. The i20 seems valuable when compared to the Swift. The i20 should not be all that slow considering the Kappa engine is quite good but Hyundai need to give the i20 a bigger and more powerful engine.
