Competition in the small car segment is increasing and the latest challenger, the Tata Nano has not helped Hyundai in anyway. Thus Hyundai is planing to do the obvious, launch a upgraded Santro. Team-bhpian sidindica has got news that the facelifted Hyundai Santro will be launched in December as posted earlier here. The new Santro will also comply with Bharat IV emission norms which come into affect in April, 2010. The slightly updated engine in the facelifted Santro will have a power increase of 1bhp and torque increase of 20NM.
The 2010 Hyundai Santro will get a new chrome grille, rounded headlamps, bigger rear view mirrors with turn indicators, pull type door handles, new taillights, rear foglights, beige interiors, more storage space, tachometer (finally), improved dampers for better ride quality, etc. There will be a slight price hike but its better if Hyundai do away with the Santro and position the i10 in the small car segment rather than a premium hatch.

It seems like it’s the battle of the small cars now. Is small cars in at present, I wonder. Though I do find small cars cute…I would probably choose to buy a car in the sedan division.

Baibhav, yes the Indian Santro and the Kia Picanto have lots of things in common, after all Hyundai owns Kia.

In many countries, i10 is nothing but a new santro / Atos.
But in India the car companies take the Indian customers for a ride by launching the same model ( newer release ) as different car in a higher segment and higher price band and retaining the same old model. In other countries the older models are phased out.
E.g : Hyundai Verna ( in India ) is nothing but Hyundai Accent ( in other countries ). These can be checked by googling the web.
Pic posted in this article is of Kia Picanto and under close observation, the front bumper, side rear door design, rear view mirrors, etc almost look the same as Hyundai i10 ( which is nothing but a Hyundai Santro ).

R.N.Sarath Babu, you hit the nail on the head. Maruti and Hyundai are continuing this practice since some time now. They need to learn alot from Toyota and Honda.

Its a pure copy of Suzuki A Star. Hyundai ppl have copying in their genes. 1st it was Sonata, then i20 and now relaunched Santro.
