Mahindra plans to launch Ssangyong vehicles in India after completing acquisition (expected to take four months) of the South Korean automaker. Mahindra will retain Ssangyong as a separate unit and is looking at the Korando (new compact SUV) platform that will be launched in the market later this year. Ssangyong has SUV’s like Kyron and Actyon which could be launced in our country. Besides SUVs, the Korean company also makes a premium sedan Chairman marquee (pictured above).

“We would look at products to complement our existing range in India. Ssangyong products are priced upwards of Rs. 12 lakhs, a level where our flagship Scorpio SUV price band ends, making way for a perfect product synergy in the Indian market,” Dr. Pawan Goenka, president and CEO, Mahindra (automotive sector) said.

First of all my congrates to M&M for the taking over of Ssangyong.
We are all looking forward the launching of new M&M Ssangyong SUVs in Indian market. Although there are many models in the market, still we lack a compact premium SUV with a reasoble price tag for the reach of a middle class. I am sure M&M Ssangyong can give an answer to this??

Awaiting for the new models, all the best.

Further to my earlier response, I would say that Korando C200 is an ideal compact SUV for Indian market. It looks cute and the interior is super. If MM introduce this for a competitive price tag of 12L max. for a 2.0L fully loadged AT, it will be a hit on the road. At the moment we don’t have one similar to this for private use. Your own Scorpio or the Safari and other ones available are mainly used to public/taxi and driver driven. Korando C200 can compete with other expensive SUVs’of similar shape.
Also the premium sedan Chairman could be a supstitute for Mercedes/BMW for the customers who cannot afford to have those. Although it is a Korean brand when it comes under M&M customers can rely on..
    best regards,
