Mahindra has high brand recognition in India for its SUVs. However the situation globally is quite different and the company wants to change that. Thus the company intends to become a global player in the world SUV market and what better time to come up with such an ambition. The automajor recently acquired Korean SUV maker Ssangyong Motor, which will help them accelerate into a globally recognised player in the specific niche of utility vehicles. The new Scorpio is set to be made to global standards and will help Mahindra enter a wide range of markets. Mahindra also plans to launch new models in Sri Lanka, as it already has an established a base in Sri Lanka, where it has been selling its range of tractors and utility vehicles for over a decade. The company has 138 dealers in India, with another 1,300 located across 98 nations. It sold 35,000 units in 2009.
