Maruti will be launching the A-Star on the 19th of November. According to ARAI the A-Star returned a mileage of 19.59 kmpl. The A-Star uses the new K series engine. The 1.0L, 3 cylinder unit has a power output of 65bhp. Check out the Maruti A-Star website.

Returned this mileage under what conditions? Most of the times these mileage figures seem so flimsy …….
The mileage is under standard driving conditions. However under normal driving conditions the mileage will be around 15-16 kmpl.
Mileage is not under standard condition.ARAI tests it under practical conditions.Start googling……….

I am impressed by the specicifications and 19.6 kmpl fuel consumption during tests. I hope it is as reliable and inexpensive to maintain, as good old ALTO & ESTEEM (now phased out)? Would like to share experience with A-star owners, before buying one.
Dinesh, the A-Star is not only the most fuel efficient car in India but also in many other countries in the world. Its a Maruti and this maintenance is expected to be cheap. Get a test drive and see how the car fits your requirements.

Hi tell me the correct mileage of A-star, I bought new astar last week, but it not give sufficient mileage as the dealer says to me. It give only 11 Km/Pl average under normal driving.
Raj, the A-Star gives around 16-18kmpl in city driving. Your mileage is expected to increase after first service.

A-star experience is really too good. A small car but highly responsive engine, Good pick up, mileage, very good A/C, super power steering with gr8 Handling. I tried this one for a long drive 800 km in 2 days, I didn’t get tiered of it the riding pleasure was gr8.

A-star is Really awesome. wonderful pickup,K-Series engine is really a powerful engine.Gear shifting is very very smooth and easy. i have gone upto 100 kmph and felt the car is steady. AC is too good.

either some people are liars or its my bad luck that i got a defective car.my a-star gives only 9kmpl mileage. i feel cheated because mileage was the main reason for me to choose this car.its third servicing is due next week but i know no miracle is going to take place…these are all gimmicks to sell their products.almost all the cars with same cc of engines give same mileage. hah 19kmpl! bakwaas.

i have been requesting them since long that i am not getting even 12kmpl mileage but i was told to have patience and wait for servicing or let the car run for some more kilometers. it has crossed 9500 and the mileage keeps on decreasing day by day.can any one help me?where should i lodge a complain?these service center guys will never accept the fault,they just know to some how pass the buck on the owner and try to explain that it is we who cannot drive properly.can you imagine 19+ mileage promised by the company and i am getting only 9.

I am proude of my A Star…but after 3rd service I loss the mileage and have some vibration also.My garage man Kataria aout they tride there level best…but problem is stell there

Maruti A Star mileage is 19 kmpl. I am using it for the past 2 years and so far its excellent. There is no engine noise coming inside the cabin. The suspension is superb. The seats give the best support. The braking is splendid and I enjoy driving the car all the time :) thanks to maruti for providing a true value for money car, A Star!

i too bought a new a star on April 17th 2010, unfortunately i got a defective car, the very next day i took it to the service station due lack of pick up. They found tht the clutch disc is worn out (i’ve coverd only 156 kms on the ODO). They agreed to replace clutch. After the clutch replacement, the clutch pedal has become so hard tht i’ll be having an aching knee after half an hour of city drive. so again i took it to service station (600 kms on the ODO). this time too they replaced the clutch. But after 150 kms of clutch replacement, again there is stiffness in the clutch pedal. Third time i took it to service station, and another clutch replacement (1800 kms on the ODO). I don’t know what these maruti people are doing out there in the factory producing crap products like astar.
i must say one word about the mileage, initially it was 11 kmpl, after first clutch replacement it rose to 14 kmpl, and now with third clutch replacement it returns 18 kmpl (with 80% a/c Highway+city).
any astar owner getting less than 16 kmpl should immediately check their clutch.
One more thing, PLEASE DON”T GO FOR KB Series Engines, Its crap, let it be astar, ritz, blue eye wagon R or new swift. good old alto, m800 and diesel vehicles of MSIL are good.

Maruti’s claim of 19 km mileage is misleading!
I get only 13 kms to a litre. I bought this car mainly for the so called fuel efficiency.The dealer has tried many times to solve , and so has the Maruti guy, but they are only good in giving excuses, and are ubale to solve the problem.
The reverse gear too is not very well seated, gets noisy while shifting.
Dear friends when people give tall claims of mileage it is not correct most of the times.Mileage must be checked full tank to full tank and after fuel settles down without air.
Most people talk of mileage based on the fuel needle which is incorrect.
I have purchased Maruti A-Star and its my 1st car. It gives 11 km/l, and when i drive AC is on. So my question is, whether its milage is good or bad?
No it is defintely very bad mileage.

As i’ve already told, I’m getting an average mileage of 16kmpl, some of my frenz say tht i can expect a higher mileage once the car covers 10000…. still i am not astonished to see tht many people get only less than 12kmpl……….
My car’s mileage too drops to 12 or 11 kmpl when some one else is driving it……. it’s the driving style tht matters,
1. Be very gentle with the accelerator pedal, don’t push it hard and hit the floor.THIS IS THE KEY RULE TO MILEAGE.
2. The power delivery of A-star is not so good(i don’t know how to describe it, in the 2nd gear @ 5-10 kmh speed, the car gasps for power and most of the time engine jerks a lot and turns off), naturally it so happens that we will un-necessarily rev up the engine (instead of going to 1st gear)resulting in huge waste of fuel.
3. U must come to the 5th gear only after 45 kmh, and do change to 4th as soon as the speed drops less than 40 kmh.
It is true that the car will run in 5th gear @ less than 40 kmh speeds, but NEVER DO IT because it will result in fuel waste.
4. When u need a quick acceleration (to over take or some thing), try to shutoff the A/c for 45 sec or 1 minute.
5. Suppose u r going @ 50 kmh in 5th gear, and needs a speed of 90 kmh, instead of pushing down the accelerator, change to 4th gear, accelerate to 80kmh or 85kmh and then come to 5th. (i’ve pushed it up to 120 kmh,with AC and 3 persons on-board and even then it returned 14.5 kmpl).
6. When ever u feels an urge to push accelerator to the floor, think about this figure – Rs.55.04/Ltr.
7. AND DO CHECK the clutch assembly and ensure tht it’s delivering the power generated by the engine……………..

forgot to tell one more thing, All mileage figures are calculated in FULL tank to FULL tank basis…….
Full tank to Full Mileage basis….Good..But when i was getting mileage 180 k.m. per 10 liter…and after 3rd serves I am getting 120 k.m. per 10 liter…….What you say for that?…….
As we see we have a good number of customers who are having problems with A -star.Let me summarize mine :
1) Very poor mileage 13 kms to a litre under very careful driving conditions.
2) Engine gets off sometimes or struggles for air in town traffic in second gear.
3) Reverse gear is now well seated, gets noisy many times when shifting to reverse, or sometimes doesnt fall into reverse at all.
Contrary to Maruti’s claim of high mileage ,(the A-star advt in Kerala says Safarulla of Kochi gets 35 kms to a litre!)this car doesn’t even have normal mileage.
Jago re!Is Maruti fooling us and taking us for granted. We must all give case in the Consumer disputes Forum.Maruti may have the best lawyers to fight their cases but they can’t remove the feeling of being cheated , from our minds.And we will make sure that no other Indian gets fooled any more.

I do agree with Mr Jophy, but do u think its easy to bargain with MSIL unless we find out where the real problem is?????
One problem my self and Jophy experience in common is the suffocation the engine feels in 2nd gear……. and this is the root cause of poor mileage.
don’t know how bypass this issue………
I’m sure that engineers at MSIL knows why this is happening, but they won’t reveal the real issue………….

I got A STAR 1.5 months back, Until first service mileage was normal.
I took on Highway for 700 km. It is giving 25+KM/LT. Really fantastic car on Highway.
Astar gives 16 KMPL in city and gaves 23KMPL on highway with 4 adults, baggage and AC on all the time with speeds of 80 to 100. I frequently do this travel between bangalore and chennai. Mileage measured with full tank and reducing amounts by refill to KM travel logic. There cannot be any other method that is more accurate than above.
Mileage of 10 or less denotes a problem. Mileage of 13 till 10 denotes either a problem (less likely) or the conditions (more likely) that you drive every day (frequent and long stops in signals with AC on consumes petrol when engine runs at higher RPM). Above 14 is a good deal. I cannot imagine other cars giving even a 14 (forget Alto or the 800 here).
Problems with reverse gear not latching needs to be brought to the notice of the service engineer. It can be fixed. But look at how other gears latch – I think AStar is the first maruthi car with a beautiful gearbox. I would say its better than the swifts.
Cars choking in second gear could be clogged air filters provided you are using second gear for the correct speed.
Most of us drive cars locally all the time. We need to show the car some speed once in a while. This will burst all impurities in the jets that are inside the engine which spray petrol for combustion. Atleast once in 3 months the car needs to see speeds of 80+ for atleast a 100KM at a stretch drive.
i bought a-start zxi the catalog and the website shows it has seat height adjuster-but it is not their in the car -the sales rep informed me during delivery of the car in showroom *if you check the website their 4 things missing when you get the car vanity mirrors rear luggage shelf Driver seat height adjuster are missing *mileage of the car is nightmare it gives only 9 km/pl on the highway*the fuel does work at all *reverse gear makes crackling sound we must pump the cluth 2-3 times to apply it*i dont like to drive the car because of the seat height adjuster missing *i cant see anything when i park the car *plus a-star front and rear guards are not available in the market yet so car or bike hits u we have to shell out 6000 to get the bumper replaced *overall not a good i could have bought i10
