Maruti Suzuki India is gearing up to roll out its global city car, the Ritz in India, by the middle of May 2009. The B+ segment small hatchback would be positioned between the A-Star and Swift.
Based on the Swift platform, the Ritz will be powered by a 1197cc K12M petrol all-aluminum 4 cylinder engine, and would be BSIV compliant. The engine which is expected to produce 85bhp of power and 113NM of torque is tipped to give a mileage of 17.8 kmpl, slightly below the A-Star which gives 19.6 kmpl (Remember these figures are according to ARAI and not what you can achieve in the real world).
The car is estimated to be priced around Rs. 4-5 lakh, though nothing has been announced by Maruti yet. The production of the Maruti Ritz has some hints of the Maruti Swift and Maruti SX4. Like the A-Star and DZire, the Ritz will also be a B-segment car and will be rolled out from Maruti’s state-of-the-art plant in Manesar, near Gurgaon.
According to sources, the new Maruti Ritz shall be launched in six variants, which comprises of three petrol and three diesel variants. Both the petrol and diesel engine will have four-valve-per-cylinder mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox, with a five-speed automatic possibly being offered as an option and will also be within Europe’s much debated CO2 emission cap of 140 g/km. The Ritz will avail excise benefits, as its falls under the Indian Governements definition of a small car.
The Ritz has been described by Suzuki as a multi-utility vehicle that will likely appeal to those with small families and a limited budget. The car may replace the Wagon R, though Maruti is yet to confirm that.
The car shall also come with Maruti Suzuki’s standard set of safety features like ABS, airbags, brake assist, etc some of which may be trimmed for India, to keep costs into consideration. Also the engine & transmission options may vary for India for the petrol versions. Ritz is going to be yet another winner form Suzuki, after Swift, SX4 and the Swift Dzire.

Another good one from Fasi. Now, Maruti’s going to launch 6 variants? Hmm..sounds exciting. This car’s shape reminds me of the Kia Soul.

This Car will be launched in India on the 15 May 2009 with K-12 Engine…The K12M is essentially a 1197cc petrol engine that is capable of putting out 85 PS of power at 6000rpm in its current state of tune. Torque figures stand at 113Nm @ 4500rpm – which should make the Ritz a sprightly performer With the K12M, Maruti has taken yet another step forward to providing India with cutting edge technology in their cars.

Ritz looks really cool and sporty yet classy and is surely good alternative to people who dont want to buy santro or the Wagon-R and want something bigger and than the Alto/A-star.

The Ritz looks like the car I had in mind as I am not too happy with the A-Star’s cramped room and the Swift now looks a little aged for a “New Car”.
The rear end looks like a steam engine ran into the Ritz, or some one went to work with a chain saw. I am sure Maruti may look at modifying this a bit before launch.
The aluminium 1.2L K12M engine should be a good alternative to the old-gen cast iron clunkers delivering reasonablly good torque for in-city drives. I sincerely hope Maruti decides to use this engine for Inida even if it wants to keep its eyes on the price for Inida.
Overall, a good job by Maruti.

ritz is a great car with cool interiors and even the leg space in the car is huge and the engine is best in Technology. with K-12 engine its made of Aluminium and is very powerful and best part its from Maruti.

Ritz is indeed a good car, good height.. but cant compare well to Swift which is much powerful and spacious car. The back look of Ritz is too flattened which appears like a car without the boot. The interiors are no doubt better than other car in its segment
