Maruti Suzuki will launch its sixth global car, Ritz, in May. The mass market car will be launched in the popular small car segment with a 1.2 litre KB series petrol and 1.3 litre multijet diesel engine simultaneously. The Ritz will be priced between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh. It is shorter than the Swift (by 30 mm), but will be spacious due to high roof structure. The Ritz, known as Splash in Europe and other developed markets, will coexist with the ageing WagonR platform, just as the newly-launched A-Star is thriving with the Alto.

The Ritz will be positioned between the A-star and the Swift, and will counter Hyundai’s i10 and i20, Skoda’s Fabia, Ford’s Fusion, Fiat’s Palio and Tata Motors’ Indica Vista. This car is Maruti’s ninth small car that will consolidate its position in the crowded market. Dubbed as a multi-purpose vehicle, it will cater to small urban families and sport BS-IV engines and a 5-speed manual gearbox.

According to dealers, the Ritz will be launched prior to Honda’s small car, Jazz, which is slated to hit the roads in June and Fiat’s premium hatchback, Grande Punto. The Ritz has cleared all the homologation tests and has been approved by the International Centre of Automotive Technology (iCAT) at Manesar in Haryana last week for launch in the Indian market.

The splash looks really good and wil lbe a good alternative to people who dont want to get the Swift or the Wagon-R and want something bigger than the Alto/A-star.

Seems to be a good option in 4-5 lakh range. Has a tall boy design as well, looks contemporary. But does it solve the problem of Swift’s cramped back seat ?

Harry, I think the LXi version might come around 4L, they will price it at similar to the Swift.

The forecasted price of 3.8, 4.0 etc – are they ex-showroom or on the road?

Hey Friends..I really felt that getting a Car like Ritz in 4-5 Lac is not a bad deal at all as i have heard that this car is coming up with a real good K-12 engine..The K12M is essentially a 1197cc petrol engine that is capable of putting out 85 PS of power at 6000rpm in its current state of tune. Torque figures stand at 113Nm @ 4500rpm – which should make the Ritz a sprightly performer and this light weight engie will lead to great Mileage that required in today’s traffic jams and high fuel prices and stylish new interiors the Ritz also offers a center console designed to give a strong presence and easy access. It also has a host of other features like a large independent speedometer, coloured fascia, information display, comfortable seat fabric and door trim which further contribute to the interior’s young and fresh appeal…I just loved this car.
