Maruti Swift K Series Maruti Equips Swift & DZire With K12M Mill

Finally Maruti has upgraded the petrol version of the Swift and Swift Dzire with the more fuel efficient, refined and environment friendly 1.2 litre K-series engine which comply with BSIV norms. Additionally, these petrol variants will now have a new improved transmission thus enhancing overall power-train performance. The K12 petrol engine on these variants delivers a fuel efficiency of 17.9 km per litre (previous G13B engine delivered 15.9 kmpl). Price of the DZire has been hiked by Rs. 10,000/- whereas the prices of the Swift remain unaltered thanks to small car excise concessions.

  5. Jazz Says:

Does the K12 engine swift have the new look too i.e., slightly longer and wider etc?

  6. Ajay Says:

some one can Suggest me weather i should go for dezire vxi (k series engine) or sx4 (euro4) daily run is 55km – price is no bar but i am looking for value for money in sence of millage, maintanance , output?

  7. umesh Says:

    @Ajay,
For ur dialy running u need a diesel car . Go for Swift Dezire ZDI (not vdi..if prise no bar then go for the safety features).
Also SX4 wud be bit heavy on ur arms to drive daily for so many km (unless u hve a driver)

  10. Vinod Says:

  11. Jazz Says:

What are the changes to the exterior in Dzire 2010 model?Any chance of a photo please?
Also is there any change to the exterior of 2010 swift?

  12. fas Says:

Jazz, no change at all except the K-Series engine underneath the petrol variants.

  13. Babu Says:

Hey I have got my dzire 2010 today. There is no change in interior and exterior except the 1.2L K12M engine.

I have missed to get 1.3L engine by one day in December. So I was worrying abt the pickup and power in new engine, as it is 100cc less than old one. But the power and pickup has not reduced much. It is almost same as 1.3L engine.

Let me check the mileage. If we get around 18, as maruthi promises, it will be really good. Will check and update here.

Overall it is Excellent to drive through !!!!!!

  14. ss Says:

Mr. Babu- kindly update about mileage of dezire k12 engine.

  15. Babu Says:

Roughly getting around 13Km/L. Seems to be less. Waiting for the first service to have a clear idea on mileage.

  16. Somya Says:

    Hi Babu & all,
Decided to purchse dzire 1:2…hope its the right deceision???Pls advise
    Somya

  17. Babu Says:

    Somya,

Yes certainly it is an excellent sedan car. The comfort and performance is really good. It is amazing to drive in city and highway. As I mentioned before the power has also not reduced compared to previous engine. So it is certainly a right decision to go for. My family is enjoying to come in this car.
    Pros I noticed
    1. Highly Comfortable
    2. Very Good Performance
    3. Highly silent engine (tried to start the car 2 times, which was already running :) )….
    4. AC is excellent. In Chennai with 34c also I was driving only in the 1st knob.
    5. Integrated System and speaker is really good – Both Look wise and performance.
    6. Boot Space -> Went for a short trip with a Suitcase, 5 chairs, 1 stool and two food carriage. Still more space was there.

    Cons I noticed
    1. Suspension is little hard in a highly bumpy road. No need to mind much, doesn’t seems to be major issue.
    2. Back seat Legroom space -> They should have provided little more.
    3. If you immediately switch on AC, after starting the car, little sound for a second. First put the fan then switch on AC after half a min, then there is no sound.
    4. As of now I would say mileage also comes under this category, since I got just less than 13/L. Hope it would be better after the first service. Will check and comment after that. Till now driven only in city.

All the best for you…. Dzire Rocks !!!!!!!

    -Babu

  18. Somya Says:

  23. sanjeev Says:

    Hi Babu

I am confused between Ritz Vs Swift Dzire, actually i planned to take Ritz but after hearing about K-series in Swift Dzire i am re-thinking.
I heard Swift Dzire gives a mileage of about 16KM/L, please update us after your first service.

    Thanks
    sanjeev

  24. Suresh Says:

    Hi Sanjeev,

I just got my Dzire VXi 1.2L. It looks awesome! Though the engine performance is going to be just the same as Ritz, I still believe that you can go for Dzire as the comforts level will definitely be layer ahead of Ritz. I have hardly driven 100 Kms so far. Shall comment on milege and other details very sooon as I am planning to take it to Bangalore in a week’s time.

    Thanks,
    Suresh

  25. Babu Says:

    Sanjeev,

My opinion is you can go for Dzire instead of Ritz. The comfort is really good. If you go for long run, stability will be better than Ritz. Went to Bangalore last weekend, it was amazing to drive through. I would be giving for first service in 2 days. Will check mileage after that and will let you know. Enjoy Dziring :)

    Regards
    Babu

  26. ss Says:

Hello Mr Babau, waiting for your update about mileage after first service….. thanx in advance

  27. Suresh Says:

    Hi Babu,

How to identify the year of manufacture in maruti swift dzire vxi? I got my vehicle last week and was told by my dealer that it is 2010 model. how do i confirm that? was BSIV model released in 2009 itself or rolled out in january 2010 only for swift/dzire? pls help.

  28. M. sreedhar Says:

    hello sir,
could you please let me know the mileage for K12m series engine?
Are there any problems in K12M series engine. kindly let me know the details at the earliest.
    bye
    sreedhar

  29. Babu Says:

    Suresh,

BS-IV model got released only in 2010 for swift and dzire. Thats the reason they have increased the price of dzire around 10K. But swift got the small car benefit, as it is below 1200 cc. There are ways to check whether it is BS-IV engine. Is it is BS-IV engine, then it is 2010 model only.

K12M model is the BS-IV engine. You could easily make out by seeing the engine. BS-III engine is bigger in size. You can see the below pictures.

    BS-III Engine –> http://www.motorbeam.com/wp-content/uploads/Engine1.jpg

    BS-IV in Ritz –> http://www.motorbeam.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/maruti_suzuki_ritz_engine.jpg

BS-IV engine shown by Maruthi –> http://www.motorbeam.com/wp-content/uploads/maruti_suzuki_kb12m_engine1.jpg (See the engine size difference also).

BS-III will be lengthy and big in size. Also invoice would have the model details. I dont think Maruthi will provide a wrong invoice. Moreover RC book also will have the model year.”

Is it due to size of the comment?

  30. Suresh Says:

    Babu,

Thanks for your comments. Those pictures certainly helped me to clarify my doubt. I could finally conclude that my car is of BS-IV model only.

Then regarding the small car benefit, I think swift dzire is also less than 1200cc in BS IV model now, but the price has been increased by 10K. Is the length of the car/dimension is also taken into consideration for excise duty benefit?

At last I could find the engine number! It isjust located/embossed on the driver side, just above the wiper water tank. It clearly indicates that it is jan 2010 model, viz., ending with AA.

  31. Babu Says:

Yes Suresh, that was another way to find. I forgot to tell you before, but you found it :) ……

Hmm not exactly sure. 1.2L engine should get excise benefit. Might be due to Sedan they increased. Not Sure.

  32. Babu Says:

    Sreedhar,

There is no issue I noticed till now.

  33. Babu Says:

Suresh, How is your vehicle? Provide us your experience.

  34. Suresh Says:

    Babu,

It is doing great. I went to Vellore and returned back (to and fro around 325kms) today with my family totally (5 people including me). It was a great driving experience. Somehow I couldnt exactly find out the milege. Perhaps when i go for refuelling next time, I may! The passengers on the rear seat felt a lot comfortable as it had extra leg room vis-a-vis Santro Xing(my earlier car). If you have any idea about the milege of your dzire 1.2, pls let me know.

    suresh.

  35. Babu Says:

Yes, It will be Excellent to drive through…… After driving to Bangalore also, didnt had any body pain. I did calculated mileage once, it was around 13KmPL. After first service I need to still check on it. Will update soon.

  36. Babu Says:

This time I have got 16.5 KmPL. Checked Full Tank to Full Tank. Driven 462 Km, which includes around 370Km in highway and remaining in City. After 370 Km given for first service and after that driven only in City.

Even I feel the power and pickup have been increased after the first service.

This time I will be driving only in City, will check again for the mileage only in City and update.

    Dzire Rocks !!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. suresh Says:

booked a dzire 1.2. vxi. don’t know when I will get it. on road price is 5.67 and today i got an intimation that the price will go up by 9k due to excise duty.

  38. Finto Says:

Hello suresh, when did you book your Dzire vxi. I too have booked for one on feb 19th.They are telling me it will take atleast 2 months. What they told you?
