The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been getting alot of attention lately and now we have got some exclusive information for you. The all new Swift 2011 will be launched in the third week of August, around the 17th to be precise. Bookings have already started and waiting period is close to 3 months already. Maruti Suzuki has decided to play the value game rather than position the Swift as a premium. The new Maruti Swift will be available in two engines and the petrol will be available with a 4-speed automatic later. Maruti Suzuki wants to prevent cannibalization of the Swift with the Ritz by positioning the new Swift above the Ritz.

The new Swift has better quality than the old model. The interiors are much better and niggling (read rattles) have been eliminated. The new Swift feels more stable and planted at high speeds as well. The K-series motor loves to be revved and reaches 100 kmph in 12.6 seconds. However the diesel lacks the punch of the old model. Power delivery from the Multijet motor is more linear and the diesel Swift reaches 100 kmph in 14.8 seconds.

The new Swift has a longer wheelbase by 40 mm leading to a 28 mm increase in rear legroom. However the boot space has come down from 232 liters to 206 liters.

Thanks for the reply. BTW one of the dash pics of the European Swift above shows the Fiesta-like voice activated Gizmo. Isn’t that coming to India, too?

No voice activated controls for Indian Swift. The controls are also for cruise control.

All these features are available in the car which are less price than Swift and they are easily available rather long waiting periods in case of Maruti

Those are international fuel efficiency figures and will be watered down given Indian test conditions and greater ground clearance required for the car here.
It would be a mistake for Suzuki to price the new Swift in i20 category which is still bigger, better equipped and has better ride quality. Also the new Swift’s small 211 liter boot will always make it a class smaller to i20 likes.

Now it may have every feature which is offered by competetion a long ago but it still not having Space & ride quality, you can buy aftermarket push button start, climate control ane steering mounted controls but you can’t buy space from market. LOL… am i right Fas?

Maruti is fleecing customers, by jacking the Prices and asking people to wait for endless periods, by then one looses interest, passion to own one. Maruti should indeed develop their own engine and boost of technology why put the Gun on somebody elses shoulder. ie; incase Fiat withdraws from Tech tie-up then what..God alone knows….? See the competition and then do the Pricing, viz-viz feature’s at what cost…. It is no more a People’s Car Company. Its Ripping Customer’s apart.

    Awesome work Fas!
I think they have stepped up the safety on the swift which i guess will come out with a 5 star Euro ncap rating and If i’m not wrong the dimensions have also changed with this being a bit longer and broader which i don’t think will be a significant change.. These does not relate to such a steep price hike! Not to forget the Diesel version will attract more insurance premiums than the petrol counterparts! I would love to see how Maruti Suzuki handles this situation..

Thanks Anand. Well Maruti does plan to make hay while the sunshines. The denand for the Swift is very high and Maruti will take advantage of this in pricing of the new Swift.

MY FAMILY HAS THREE SHOWROOMS OF MARUTI IN THE NAME OF AKANKSHA AUTOMOBILES .ISOLD MY OLD SWIFT, STILL HAVING DESIRE BUT STILL HAVING A PROBLEM OF THE LOCKS OF BUMPERS AND THE NOISE OF DOORS.SHUD PROVIDE USB IN EVERY STEREO SYSTEM.THE QUALITY OF TYRE IS ALSO UNSATISFACTORY.AT THIS LEVEL COMPANY SHUD PROVIDE THE BEST.THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO MAKE AVAILABILITY OF CARS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THE CUSTOMER SHUDN’T MOVE TO OTHER CARS,TO BIND THE CUSTOMER IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR ANY COMPANY.IF THE CUSTOMER GOES HE/SHE WILL NOT BE BACK.

PLEASE DO NOT HIKE THE PRICE OF NEW SWIFT IF U WANT TO COMPETE THE MARKET.MAXIMUM HIKE SHUD BE 10000=0 RS IF U WANT ,OTHERWISE I20 IS BETTER OPTION FOR THE CUSTOMER.

Motorbeam guys! where are u getting your leaks from? the plumbing there is faulty or worse hope u r not making it up? why the flak? the maruti website has the loaded Swifts pic. now and the cd slot does not have “bluetooth” stamped; taking that connectivity option out. Don’t speculate please when you announce color and car features– be forthright to your visitors , just not to type the stuff straight from EU spec swifts. Other wise good work , keep it up! beam shines bright.

New Maruti Swift 2011 Features (by motorbeam!)

    Push button start
Electric operated outside rear view mirrors
    Electric folding rear view mirrors
    USB, Aux port
    “”Bluetooth connectivity””
    Steering mounted audio controls
    Climate control
    15-inch wheels
    Rear wiper washer demister
    Xenon headlights
    Sunroof (Optional)

Dear Viper, we have not taken the features list from teh EU Swift and posted it here. We have only written what information we have got. There is no speculation here. As far as the Bluetooth goes, we will confirm it (with pictures ofcourse) by the first week of August.

Maruti should have offered new swift Rs30,000 less than the old model to keep it out with competition with liva and i20. Maruti should now understand that Indians are now looking for good value for money than brand loyalty.

The car if priced at this level, will certainly prove to be a disaster for MSIL as MSIL is depending heavily on Swift.
