The success of the diesel variants of the DZire and Swift has made Maruti Suzuki consider launching a diesel powered SX4 by mid-2010. Sources say that a 1.6liter turbodiesel may be sourced from the company’s parent arm, which already has a diesel driven SX4 in its portfolio in various countries.  The SX4 DDIS is expected to be priced about Rs. 50,000 more than the petrol SX4.

Maruti Suzuki senses that diesel saloons are gaining popularity in the Indian car market as such cars offer improved power, performance, and fuel efficiency. Once launched it would be pitted against Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Verna, Fiat Linea and Honda’s proposed diesel version of City.

“Diesel cars are becoming very popular as they are more fuel efficient and cheaper to run. Both our Swift and DZire diesel variants outstrip the sales of their petrol siblings. We, currently, don’t manufacture any diesel engines other than the 1.3-litre multi-jet and sourcing a new engine may take some time,” a Maruti Suzuki official said.

Maruti has lined up an array of launches with diesel engines, which includes Ritz and a couple of other models. According to a South-Delhi based Maruti dealer, a number of C-segment buyers are developing a fancy for diesel run cars. The dealer also hinted the possibility that Maruti Suzuki may bring in an SX4 sporting a 1.6 litre turbodiesel engine.

This was expected – but Maruti is pushing their luck by this wait till 2010. A lot of prospective buyers for diesel C- segmenters would look for alternatives rather than wait. I had some data collected where it seems like in the C segmet there are more diesel choises than petrol available. http://cars.zimbly.com/2009/03/indian-market-new-vehicles-available-part-1/#more-85 . Maruti will find it difficult to handle this.

Sushil…You are right!!!But again considering the current market conditions Maruti might be doing a wise thing because once launched there is every chance that this might become their flag-ship model..But the real worry should be for Honda as it has been giving hints of launching a diesel City since a long time…Hats-Off Maruti!!!…You really know how to give a killer blow…

This is a good decision taken by maruti but I fears that a lot of months will take to deliver the sx4 diesl after booking as the same is happening to swift & dezire diesl variants.

No guys just forget abt waiting for Sx4 Diesel variant…. I’m doing the same from past 9-10 months.. Just every time i think of going for another car, i feel wht if Maruti launch in next 2 months with that variant… So like that i spent just waiting very long (almost a year)… Now finally decided to shift my mind to some other car… Also i wont even bother now much if they come up with the car later after i get another. :)

People at Maruti Care center also are not revealing much info on that… I personally feel after going through many many blogs that the release might get even postponed to 2011… (Hears funny if i wait more from now)

Maruti SX4 already rocks with the petrol variant. The muscular exterior looks and the soft seats in the interior together with excellent road grip, superb suspension and high ground clearance makes SX4 a true value for money car.

Bigger Sx4 wheel wells built to accommodate 16 wheels with high-profile tires, tall upright windscreen, massive wide screen mirrors and the upright seating position of the passengers all combine to give the SX4 it’s masculine look. The headlamps have an aggressive look and the rear of the car is quite raised, when compared to other sedans. Sx4 is bringing the Real Maleness to Sedans. Its a owner’s pride!!!

Sx4 is a real pleasure once you start the vehicle…as if sitting on an eager horse which is rearing to go! Perfect steering, keeps the beast in control and pointed at hgh speeds. Have gone upto 140kmph smoothly and the abs brakes are just too good to get you from 80 to stop in traffic signals. I am getting fuel in city of 13km/l . Look no further, go for Sx4.

SX4 IS GETTING REVEALED SOON… NEXT MONTH… HOLD YOUR BREATHS & SEE AS THE 1.3 DIESEL with 90Bhp vrooms out before the festive season.

The car is ready with MS, they are launching pretty early to confront sales of VW Vento.

The tags would surely be under 10Lcs, as Maruti doesn’t deserves to be paid over that tag & paying more means failure to their master plan.

Maruti SX4 Diesel Automatic if launched will be excellent option for automatic transmission users. Maruti should now evolve and start introducing automatics. Automatic transmission are more comfortable for the miserable conditions of our roads and traffic..
